Met Museum photo of an ancient Egyptian board game carved from cream-coloured ivory displayed against a dark background. The original name of the game is unknown. It is now known as โ€˜Hounds and Jackalsโ€™ or the โ€˜Game of 58 holesโ€™. The game board rests on four bulls' legs. One of the legs, seen at back of the board on the right of photo, is completely restored. Another has a restored hoof (seen at front of the board on left). The board is shaped like an axe head. In the centre of the upper surface is an incised palm tree topped by a โ€˜Shenโ€™ symbol (a circle atop a a horizontal line to which it is tied). The palmโ€™s trunk runs down the length of the board. There are 58 holes in the upper surface; 29 arranged evenly on either side of the palm tree. At the lower side of the game board there is a drawer with a bolt to store the playing pieces. The playing pieces are made up of ten long pins (sticks) with carved animal heads. Five are hounds and five are jackals. In the photo, the ten pins are arranged randomly in holes on the game board. The board is carved from ivory with ebony detailing around the 58 holes. The pins are ivory.

Measurements:
Game board: H 6.8cm W 10.1 cm, D 15.6 cm.
Hound pins: H 6 cm to 6.8 cm
Jackal pins: H 7 cm to 8.5 cmโ€จ
The game was excavated in 1910 by Howard Carter from the tomb of an official named Reniseneb at Thebes. The tomb is dated to Dynasty 12, Reign of Amenemhat IV, circa 1814โ€“1805 BC.

โ€œAncient Egyptians likened the intricate voyage through the underworld to a game. This made gaming boards and gaming pieces appropriate objects to deposit in tombsโ€ (The Met).

This Ancient Egyptian board game is almost 4,000 years old!

Known as โ€˜Hounds and Jackalsโ€™ or โ€˜Game of 58 holesโ€™, its original name is unknown. Itโ€™s suggested it was played in a similar way to โ€˜Snakes and Laddersโ€™.

I want to thank people who took the time to read the document and watch the video I shared. It is also important to me that it is understood: I do not believe Matthew, Paula, Monique or Naveen (or anyone else) had involvement (or awareness) of the actions the owner of Game Night Picks took. 1/4

this is literally going to strongarm every queer user into giving info after they declared every single lgbtq+ server to be "adult servers" years ago.

so now it's literally give us your info or lose access to your communities and resources.

if you want butterflies, you need to live with
caterpillars.
iam not being metaphorical, i work in a garden center,
stop buying plants 'to bring in the bees and butterflies
and then immediately poisoning every caterpillar that
dares to consume a single leaf
you will not get butterflies if you kill all the things that
turn into butterflies! what are you doing!

(end of post)

below it, a response from afroartinc:

As a poet, I also want my viewers to take this rather
beautiful allegory into account.

Being a fascist is a deeply demoralizing experience. You have to not only radically alter your worldview to make reality fit into your unhinged schema, but that worldview is predicated on the notion that the weakest, most unworthy degenerate worms on the planet are somehow overpowering and humiliating you on a moment-by-moment basis.

In mechanical terms too, the lowered morale also reduces your volition scoreโ€”the more you indulge in your delusions, the less you are able to exercise self-control and self-awareness.

The point of fascism being mechanically detrimentalโ€”the ludonarrative themeโ€”is that fascism is an unequivocally self-destructive ideology, the practice of which only serves to nurture that self-destructive urge and turn it outward. It's not like Dark Side points in KotOR where you can access cool new abilities and get to enjoy being such a nasty lil rascal; you are not supposed to enjoy being a fascist in Disco Elysium. Fascism is the act of self-deception in service of making your own life more painful, solely for the payoff of making life more painful for people you dislike.

Game designers, what methods do you use for physical note-taking? I am tired of writing notes in Google Keep, and my main physical notebook gets cumbersome when I can't guess how many pages a design will need. My notes don't have much structure. I'm looking into the Zettelkasten method. ๐ŸŽฒโœ‚๏ธ

I keep the ones I'm actively working on in a clipboard (that can close) + more A4 and a little folder for unsorted notes/ideas.

The key is to keep it to one idea/concept in a specific project

It's imperfect and a bit messy, but works and is super easy to keep going

One of the underlying ideological projects of the right is a the return of women to a position of child-like dependence on men, which they hold up to be both a social and sexual ideal. This erases the boundary of the child because women are not supposed to ever become real adults with equal rights.

A watercolor and ink illustration showing three different loon (diver) species, a silhouette in flight, and an egg.

The common loon (called here a great northern diver) is the state bird of Minnesota. It's a symbol of healing and transformation.

In a folktale "The Blind Boy and the Loon," a blind child living with an abusive guardian has their sight restored by a kind bird. See firstarts.ca/content/feat...

make comics, and by that I mean : make comics you're able to finish
don't start a 400 pages graphic novel as your first project, make shorter comics, see if you enjoy it, & then keep doing it
