I’m not advocating for lying and propagandizing. I’m advocating for wording that the average person understands, and can relate to. Much of that language may be loaded and not technically correct in an academic setting, but most people who vote aren’t historians or political scientists.

A lot. But if it takes emotional appeals for a democracy to defeat an authoritarian movement, I would prefer the forces of democracy be victorious through those admittedly cynical means rather than be defeated and under authoritarian rule while claiming moral victory for being rhetorically pure.

One person’s propaganda is another’s hyperbole. If it takes hyperbole to motivate voters in a democracy to oust authoritarians from government, it would be silly not to utilize it as a persuasive tool, especially given the ignorance, apathy and short attention span among much of the electorate
