Both! We have very dark skies here with little light pollution. This was visible to the eye, although the color is much more muted and subtle. The camera sensor definitely "sees" color better at night than the human eye.

The aurora borealis are giving us a little show in the northern skies tonight. It's cold, windy but beautiful. The long winter nights give us ample opportunities for northern lights displays.
