Food matters! And good, nutritious food matters even more. Where is Trump going with this insanity? Courting famine? Is this the start of a cull of those who will not be able to afford food when shortages further spike prices?

Trump disrupting US bird flu response as outbreak worsens Expertsโ€™ concern grows as communication breaks down among federal agencies responsible for tackling epidemic

The Trump administration has disrupted the US response to bird flu as the outbreak worsens, leading to confusion and concern among federal staff, state officials, veterinarians and health experts, 11 sources told Reuters.

Since Donald Trump took office on 20 January, two federal agencies responsible for monitoring and responding to the epidemic have withheld bird flu reports and canceled congressional briefings and meetings with state health officials, the sources said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) withheld two weekly reports, one on bird flu transmission and another on surveillance, and canceled several meetings on bird flu with state officials.

The CDC and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) held no congressional briefings for three weeks, and the USDA did not respond to a state officialโ€™s request for information on a new program to protect the nationโ€™s food supply, the sources said.

Umโ€ฆfarmer here. Trump 45 was a disaster for farming. Barely got over his asinine policies in 2022. Biden was a boon. Helping us tackle climate issues. Trump 47 is, only after weeks, a clusterfuck of a disaster for agriculture going forwards

Many of the worldโ€™s worst famines were caused by bugs that people brought into new areas where no ecological/predatory control existed. Imagine if whatโ€™s happening to chickens in the US just now were to happen to wheat, corn, potatoes, or any major crop? Identifiers are there for very good reasons.

Identifiers at USDA were let go this week. The GOP is fine destroying US agriculture.

How scrumptious does this look! How many greens on most supermarket shelves look, or likely are, so nutritious? Visit a farmersโ€™ market and/or grow some of your own.

Mind-boggling wreckage. Among the lifesaving programs now disrupted by Elonโ€™s attack on @USAID: phase 1 trials for a possible HIV vaccine.

do i roll my eyes at a lot of DEI stuff? yeah, i wrote a whole essay about why i thought it was bullshit back in 2020. but trump et al arenโ€™t saying, โ€œcorporate DEI policies mainly exist to protect corporate interests from discrimination lawsuits.โ€ theyโ€™re saying โ€œget the blacks outโ€

the fucking enforcement arm of the federal government is launching a war on integration an effort to push tens of millions of americans to the bottom of an arbitrary hierarchy of value and yeah, it pisses me off to see nominal allies say โ€œoh yeah maybe they have a pointโ€

the OTHER thing about the white houseโ€™s anti-diversity push is that like old fashioned segregation it is explicitly an effort to undermine unions! like cโ€™mon! donโ€™t be stupid!

The right-wing has been priming Americans to think of population wide gains in freedom and equality as potentially ill-gotten; a theft against those who are already living with a full suite of rights. It's why attacks on DEI work. The Dems/the left must emphasize that this is a theft of Civil Rights

Before folks start comparing this to European autocracies, pause and ask why so many folks - Black and white - didnโ€™t know about the Tulsa Race Massacre. Or the Wilmington Coup. Or the Colfax Massacre. Or the Elaine, Arkansas massacre.

Erasure has been a key tactic of white supremacy. Right here.
