Arsene Wenger famously said that if a player doesn't have great technique by 14 he will never develop it. The US system is not focused enough on building players with great core skills. Too many big field games and culture of winning not improving

Maybe but they are a big part of the US soccer picture and have tremendous political and financial influence. Maybe spend a little less on marketing and a bit more on product development.

We are better off with players from European system as culturally we are way off base. Poch is just saying the PC thing about US system as that is who pays him. But being in EU does not make you great automatically. Most skills are developed by age 12 so what we do here matters

No, i want someone better than a mediocre pretty boy with limited talent to be the icon of US talent. The potential is out there but they aren't coming though. My argument is with the paucity of the US system not this one incredibly forgettable winger. If he was French he would be gone already

The MLS academies are not good enough and the collegiate system is too heavily weighted towards certain groups. I have watched my kids play in so many tournaments with young (often latino) kids showing incredible technique and potential. Them not coming through is everyone’s fault including the MLS

You mean like Rik Smits, Quinten Post, Francisco Elison and Dan Gadziuric. All Dutch and played in NBA but not celebrated even in Holland because they were Meh. That Pullisic without the hype machine of US sports

Facilities, fan engagement, etc are the the sports management side of things that money solves. Talent, product on the pitch, technical quality comes from culture which we still don't have. Too much emphasis upon winning at youth level and physicality. Blocks out the real talent

Except Yao Ming was good. Pullisic was just an average player given lots of hype that he never really had the talent to back up.
I just think the bar is being set far too low. 20 years after Freddie Adu don't you think it is remarkable that Pullisic is the best we have. Journeyman at best

Because he was just Meh, not the superstar that the marketing machine tries to turn him in to. He showed promise at Dortmund but was binned off by Chelsea because of his technical level. Milan have American owners so they brought him in for marketing purposes but that team is garbage

Too much focus on winning and stats at youth level produces mediocre players who can run around a lot. We haven't produced one technically adept player and MLS reinforces that every week.

Holland has a population of 18 million and has produced Cruyff, Neeskins, Van Nistleroy, Van Persie and on and on. Starting for Chelsea is not exactly showing the way

Norway’s population is 5.5 m so if you have to go that far down the list to find someone that MLS is better than it proves the point more than you would like to admit. The MLS is NOT improving and is becoming a retirement home for old players looking for a last pay check. Basically the NASL again

The astounding thing about the MLS, despite all of the money invested, is how poor it is. Same goes for USMNT, still not produced on single player of true world class quality (and please don't start with Pulisic)

We keep hearing how Arwenal are “bad at selling”. Can you imagine what the Yelp review would read from the the buyers of Nketiah, ESR and Balogun. Almost 100m spent and not one of them can get in their new teams.
