Don't get me wrong. It was no utopia. Birmingham twitter was still full of middle class white men,at the start, who mansplained me & questioned what the fuck right I had to be in Their Space. But we didnt *hate* each other.And the women of their age-their sisters&wives&bosses- showed them what for.

We didn't need a verify button, back then. You'd recognise someone from their pic (unless they were still an egg) or something they said, and you'd ask, are you "@ brummie bobsky"? and they'd shuffle awkwardly & say yes, and hey presto, verified. No blue effing tick.

You could hand out fliers, & sing songs, & gossip in the corner. You could help someone. And hurt someone, too. And it would matter. Bc it was real life. You could bump into the person you were tweeting. This city was 2 degrees of separation, back then. Maybe it still is, idk.

I really miss Birmingham twitter. Remember, what it was like, in 2009/10/11? Remember those early years? This higgeldly-piggeldy public square. Where you made friends, and pretend enemies (who you later made friends with over an irl cuppa). You spoke to important ppl as they went to work.
