β€œCars ruin cities. People in Surrey in their Range Rovers are not welcome to drive into London because it imposes social costs on people.”

What a quote to get into the newspaper! Well done, @crisortunity.bsky.social.

I do not understand how anyone could ever expect me to vote for this. Nothing they can do tweaking worker rights or who owns trains can ever make up for this

So many people in positions of power all around the world should look at what’s happening in Paris with a deep sense of shame and embarrassment.

Thank you, @annehidalgo.bsky.social, for showing us what is possible. What you are doing for Paris has global implications.

YouTube video by John Munro Car Culture Panel with Hin Ting (Jody) Wu, Immy Kaur, Adam Tranter, Sandra Green, and Tom Flood

When, one day, Birmingham turns the corner on its car culture, people will look back on @tomflood.bsky.social's visit to this city as a memorable moment that prepared the way.

Abolish ICE.

There’s no reforming it.

There’s no compromise.

There’s only one way to rein in ICE’s terror campaign. Abolish it.

They're trying to tell us that they always get what they want. That there is nothing so hideous that they won't do it, even if it's kidnap a five year old child and then, when they lose, really try even harder to make him suffer more.

Fuck them.

I just got a copy of my cover for my forthcoming book! It features a postcard from Fez by the Moroccan Jewish photographer Joseph Bouhsira. Bouhsira was the first Moroccan to establish his own commercial photography studio, and many of his images featured the Jewish community in Fez.

Izzy Knowles Update on the flags put up without permission in Moseley Village tonight.

I went out and spoke to the group at the time, asked them to take the flags down and told them they are committing an offence under S132 Highways Act 1980.

Despite that they continued to put up more flags through the village even though it was clear the community does not welcome them here.

I have written to the Cabinet member, the Director for Community Safety and the Police Commander asking for the flags to be taken down as soon as possible and for some firm action to be taken, either a summons to court or an injunction.

This group are not being patriotic, they are upsetting and frightening many people, causing division amongst communities, wasting police time and adding unnecessary cost to a council that is already struggling with managing its finances.

We already have a flag for Birmingham. It's the Birmingham Community flag celebrating our rich heritage as a city of a thousand trades, built on migration and welcoming to all.

Not for the first time, Paris proves that the liberty of private property doesn't always have to take precedence over the communal luxury of public space for all.

And if you park in a cycle lane (even if it's not actually a cycle lane and is just a painted insult stripe on the road) it should be mandatory by law that cyclists have to key your car as they pass. That law would *actually* make cycling safer

so crazy to me that a woman asked trump if he has any words for epstein's victims and he said "you as a young woman should smile more." it will go nowhere bc republicans refuse to hold trump accountable, but it's still pretty crazy.

Devastatingly sad.
Every Labour MP should be forced to read this. In fact, every MP, who rushed back to Parliament to vote to save one steel mill, whilst hastening the collapse of dozens of universities - and harming the students, staff, communities and economies universities sustain and support

β€˜If I think about what this means, I want to cry’: what happens when a city loses its university? When Essex University’s Southend campus opened, it was a message of hope for a β€˜left behind’ UK seaside town. Its closure will be felt far beyond its 800 students, some of whom will not get their degr...

Excellent article but stark reminder that for all the perceptions of universities as ivory towers for elites, they are actually vital hubs in towns n cities supporting local businesses and providing key services as well as education….

Antifascist Tactical Urbanism

City: Birmingham, UK

Why? Deliver increased mobility options in the present, prepare to impede kidnapper SUVs of any British ICE force that some powerful people in this country want to see in the future.

These vehicles and their advertisers are in need of reregulation, but sadly those who could do so are often beholden to the very forces currently ruining our cities.
