Recently viewed a house. Lovely place, nothing wrong with it at all but had to convince the wife out of buying it. Why? Because it's number 9. Thanks Reece Shearsmith / Steve Pemberton.

Nothing makes me more depressed than riding the bus through Hampstead watching the massive gated detached homes go by, knowing I will never have that.

03.01.2025 02:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0NORMAN HEATLEY developed the back-extraction technique for efficiently purifying penicillin in bulk. After the patent Heatley and the Oxford team had to pay to use the techniques they initially developed.
31.12.2024 00:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is Andrew J Moyer who is a snake. A small Oxford team were the first to develop purified penicillin for medicinal use. They had a contract with Moyer to develop new ways to increase yield. Moyer went behind the oxford team's back, claimed all the credit and PATENTED pencillin production.

βIf we die, we die togetherβ: 20 years after the Boxing Day tsunami, are we better prepared?
23.12.2024 10:02 β π 56 π 16 π¬ 2 π 4The 2004 Tsunami helped change disaster management for the better. Tsunami early warning systems have been dramatically improved (not everywhere though). Not every country has the funds to maintain expensive tsunami sensors. Also, most sensors do not detect tsunamis caused by volcanoes or landslides
26.12.2024 18:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A few years ago I discovered this artwork that I painted as a 5 year old just days after the disaster in school. Clearly I had seen the news coverage and it impacted me greatly.
26.12.2024 18:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The boxing day tsunami media coverage as well as "The Impossible" film focus intensley on white tourist perspectives of the disaster. The stories of hundreds of thousands of victims from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia have recieved little coverage over the past 20 years.
26.12.2024 18:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Twenty years ago today was the Boxing Day Tsunami. This was the deadliest tsunami in recorded history killing over 200,000 people."The Impossible" (2012) retells a real Spanish family's experience starring Ewan Mcgregor and a young Tom Holland. A good watch to understand how terrifying it was.

How was she able to absorb it? Why was she able to fly? How was she able to absorb her mother? How did she get far enough away from earth in time? She would have had to travel faster than the speed of light?
These things really broke the suspension of disbelief.
