Climbing Hydrangea?

A cluster of flowers on Rosa โFor Your Eyes Onlyโ, flowers open darker and gradually fade to a more pink shade.
Rosa โFor Your Eyes Onlyโ, single flowered and lightly scented.
This is Rosa โFor Your Eyes Onlyโ, it produced bunches of flowers for a good part of last summer. Then we had clusters of good sized rose hips all winter (theyโd still be there now, but I had to prune it!). Itโs been unbothered by pests and disease, an all round top plant.
11.02.2025 10:00 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My garden in July 2024. Orange Crocosmia have taken over from the pinks and blues of the Geraniums.
My garden in June 2024. Pink and purple Foxgloves, Alliums and Geraniums are the main contributors here, there are some blue geraniums just out of shot.
My garden in January 2025. The dead stems of Miscanthus contrast with the evergreen bamboos. Everything is rather frosty in this picture.
Iโve discovered a few photos of the garden taken from the same point of view, by accident rather than design. I was quite struck last year by how well the Crocosmia followed on from the Geraniums, not that I can claim to have planned that, either!

Metal plant support holding up dead grasses (Miscanthus).
The Miscanthus are still making a contribution to the winter garden, metal plant supports help with this. Rosa โFor Your Eyes Onlyโ is also still looking good; itโs rose hips are big enough to be seen from the house and quite long lasting.
19.01.2025 15:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Spring 2024 on the patio, pots of tulips.
Yellow, purple and red tulip flowers from spring 2024.
Pots freshly planted with tulip bulbs in spring 2025.
Todayโs gardening fun has been tulip bulb planting. Iโm not necessarily recommending January for this, but you definitely can get away with it if you need to (doesnโt work well with other bulbs). The two pics of flowers show last springโs tulip display, which I think I planted in February!
15.01.2025 16:24 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A single Phalaenopsis orchid flower with a pale cream background colour and irregular pinky-purple blotches.
This morning on the kitchen windowsill, possibly the ugliest Phalaenopsis in the world. This is a plant weโve had for more than a decade and is now more than 50 cm across. Iโm weirdly attached to it, possibly in a kind of horticultural Stockholm syndrome. #flowersonfriday
10.01.2025 11:17 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Christmas Eve 2024. Rose hips on Rosa โFor Your Eyes Onlyโ, dew drops on Melianthus major, precocious flowers on a Primula vulgaris hybrid.

I havenโt planted my tulip bulbs yet, you can get away with planting them anytime up to mid-February (Iโm in the south of England, different โrulesโ may apply elsewhere).
This only seems to work with tulips, Iโve tried this Laissez-faire approach various other bulbs, and have failed every time.
Miscanthus grass flower heads.
Another photo (from last week) of the Miscanthus. I removed the frosted banana leaves shortly after taking this picture, but the grasses remained. Over the weekend storm Bert slightly โrearrangedโ them. Theyโre still making a contribution, but are not quite as photogenic as here!
25.11.2024 09:46 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Miscanthus sinensis โRolandโ, a tall ornamental grass, in an autumnal garden.
This is a clump of Miscanthus sinensis โRolandโ, creating a cascade of fluffy grass heads across the garden. I find the name of this grass inexplicably entertaining, itโs one of the taller Miscanthus (although not the tallest). The frosted leaves of Musa basjoo can be seen in the background.

A frosted Ricinus leaf.
Weather station showing minus 1 Celsius this morning.
The first morning of real frost here in my part of the world. This is nearly two weeks later than I used to expect it to arrive. I particularly notice due to the number of tender โexoticsโ I tend to grow (like the sad Ricinus here).

Melianthus major
Miscanthus sinensis โZebrinusโ (or something similar)
Rubus tricolor
A nice bits of foliage still looking good in the garden this morning. The Tetrapanax wil probably e damaged by the frost layer this week, the Melianthus may be OK. The shiny Rubus can cope with anything.
18.11.2024 11:10 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Colocasia esculenta โFontanesiiโ (other spellings may be available). This has grown well this year, itโs one of the more hardy Colocasia, so should be fine over winter in the cold greenhouse.
17.11.2024 13:07 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hardy exotic plants in a UK garden; Tetrapanax and Melianthus major, with Musa basjoo at the back.
A pic from a few days ago in my garden. Various big leafy exotic things are still looking good. The blueish Melianthus major (in the middle) would have preferred a hotter summer, but is bravely soldiering on regardless.
17.11.2024 11:28 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A view from an upstairs window, looking down on a patio filled with exotic foliage.
A final view of the patio jungle, taken a couple of days ago. Today I started dismantling this, tucking things away into the greenhouse before the cold weather arrives next week.
