18.10.2025 10:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Isn't the usual trick to replace "ld a,0" with "xor a"?
18.10.2025 07:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Just go slow and steady. No-one's expecting you to change the world on your own.
18.10.2025 07:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You've been kidnapped. Your kidnappers allow you keep posting on social media to pretend everything is alright. What would you post that would alarm your followers without the kidnappers knowing you're asking for help?
Really loving the soaps this week.
16.10.2025 19:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But it gets better: They forget to pay the renewal fees, the site goes offline, forget who the site is hosted with and then complain to central IT.

14.10.2025 21:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Why are people claiming to have "upgraded" to ethernet? This *is* ethernet π€. And just to make me sound even older, this is the SECOND version of ethernet cables. Ask Dracula about the first version of ethernet.
14.10.2025 19:45 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Disaster recovery is often limited to a few systems and might rely on hot or warm standbys. But if someone's gotten in and hosed your SAN, you're, as they say, screwed.
14.10.2025 11:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0(Never had this problem with off-site tapesπ)
14.10.2025 11:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The latest buzz-phrase is "immutable backups" for this very reason.
14.10.2025 11:19 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Meta had this a while ago: Their systems were offline and they couldn't enter the data centres as the access control was part of what was offline. They had to call in locksmiths!
14.10.2025 11:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think the largest pool of applicants I've had to sift was over 200 applicants.
13.10.2025 16:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0On your first point *many* websites do a terrible job of validating email addresses and reject perfectly valid ones. I've had some companies reject an email addresses with more than three levels of domain. (e.g. jj@fee.fi.foe.fum)
13.10.2025 16:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The last point is a real pain in the butt when Indeed et al screw up scraping the information and the applicants get contradicting information about the job.
13.10.2025 16:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Here's a view from the other side of the interview table:
2) Having all application forms in the same format *really* helps when trawling through many applicants.
3) Many companies don't actually submit their job adverts to Indeed, etc. Indeed (badly) scrape adverts from our own job site.
If you're referring to scrolling problems that seems to have been fixed.
12.10.2025 22:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm gonna regret saying this but the loss of the middle ground is hurting politics too.
12.10.2025 17:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm not going to claim it would - but I could believe it might.
12.10.2025 16:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0At work, even though we don't use weird from addresses, we publish copies of All Staff emails at a well-known (internal) web site.
12.10.2025 16:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Could it be that the main battery had enough juice to keep the CMOS alive?
12.10.2025 16:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I can see why so many people fall for these kinds of things: I've trained my family to not trust anything yet they're still so nervous when I say "Bin it, it's a scam" Milgram would have a field day if he was still alive.
12.10.2025 15:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've met academics who have never spent a day outside of academia since they were sent off to nursery. It showed.
12.10.2025 15:45 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I remember as a kid watching the American Football program on Channel 4. When Channel 4 broadcast the SuperBowl live for the first time my dad stayed up to watch it: And regretted it.
12.10.2025 15:43 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's not just billionaires: It's anyone who lives in a bubble.
12.10.2025 06:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If chicken nuggets are good enough for Usain Bolt, Wimpy is good enough for you!
11.10.2025 12:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Obviously R18 should be connected to GP18 π
09.10.2025 20:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I thought it was a good quip. β
09.10.2025 18:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nearly forgot: If you're the other side of the equator I can recommend Dean's kits: www.tindie.com/stores/dinot...
08.10.2025 21:07 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Stephen over at www.scc.me.uk has loads of kits too!
08.10.2025 18:55 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0The 80s were the peak of science on TV. Now we might get a repeat of a 5+ year old program if we're lucky. Fortunately, YouTube has stepped up to fill the void: @bradyharan.bsky.social's channels, @drbecky.bsky.social & Scott Manley for starters.
