It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

Yesterday I nearly lost my voice. Today it was barely there. I taught class and since then only have a whisper.

Ugh.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this yearβ€˜s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. If you aren't failing you aren't trying. Grad students and new faculty: the most prolific scholars are also the most prolific at getting rejected. Rejections suck but they are a big part of the publication process.

This paper is actually a collection of failed experiments, where we took the day 1 timepoint of each and added a bit more to show a seasonal trend.

If your experiments fail, there's usually a creative workaround! And thanks to colleagues for letting us use their equipment - this work was unfunded

Paper accepted!

This one kinda blows up some previous work I’ve done but more importantly shows that some other papers are just wrong.

Last week, one of Trump's senior DOJ appointees strongly attacked a South Carolina's judge's voting rights decision. Today her house was burned to the ground by suspected arsonists.

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

The climate movement’s biggest weakness What the climate movement is getting dead wrong.

Meat is a blind spot for people who care about climate. When I used to have dinner with my colleague Wally Broecker, the climate scientist who coined the term β€œglobal warming”, he would always order a steak.
