I haven’t tried the Nightdive remaster as it seemed poor value as someone who already has base SS2 with textures upscaled and so on via mods. Not really upset the original is being removed from sale, but it is unfortunate that it will raise the price of the game, unless someone goes the yoho route.

The radicalisation happening of UK elites is bad, bodes ill for the future, but is also, to be clear, really really funny quite a lot of the time.

It is possible to cherish the BBC as an institution while also saying that BBC News is failing very badly, day after day, in its duty to inform and that it always fails in a right-wing direction. It desperately needs to recover its integrity

Transmisogyny is just this bizarre clusterfuck where people treat you like a woman, in that they talk over you, call you overly emotional, sexualise you, judge you harshly on how well you embody femininity, disbelieve you when you say you've been mistreated, all the while insisting that you're a man

Can't fault the clarity of Labour's message on protest. There are BAD protesters who must be punished (Irish musicians, anti-genocide vicars) and there are GOOD protesters whose views deserve respect (masked thugs with petrol bombs trying to start a pogrom)

New YouGov polling. A monumental failure of our political class to educate, a monumental failure of our media to report fairly, for a generation

Gender-critical protesters thrown out of venue after confronting trans darts player Gender-critical protestors have been removed after targeting trans darts player Noa-Lynn van Leuven during her return to the sport.

How exactly is throwing objects at a trans woman β€œprotecting women and girls”, dearest Gender Criticals?

I’m sure the solitary trans woman playing televised darts has really ruined feminimsmsst. Leave her alone you fucking weirdos.

Violent or destructive left wing protest is framed as delegitimising the protesters' stated cause.

Violent or destructive right wing protest is framed as emphasing the need for urgent action on the protesters' stated cause.

As always, right wing men are treated as elemental forces without agency.

Increasingly convinced the cheapest way to address this is to reverse local government austerity. Returning English local authority budgets to 2010 levels would cost about Β£7bn. Factor in population and demographic change and you'd want maybe Β£15bn. Benefits could be seen quickly and felt widely.

A powerful and sobering article.

cartoon for the guardian by Stephen Collins - script as follows:

[Scene is a darkened LOFT. Amongst the boxes and junk are FOUR KNACKERED OLD FANS - three tower fans and one circular, with cracked grey plastic and buttons missing. One fan, TOWER FAN 1, is a bit taller than the others, and is addressing them]

1
TOWER FAN 1:
Right lads, get ready.

2
TOWER FAN 1:
This is our time.

3
TOWER FAN 1:
The time when we remember who we are, and why we’re here.

4
TOWER FAN 1:
We are the four crap fans in a British person’s loft,

and we are here to make absolutely no difference whatsoever.

5
TOWER FAN 1:
I know what you’re
thinking, lads:

6
TOWER FAN 1:
Surely this will be the year they finally replace us?

7
TOWER FAN 1:
Our plastic’s gone all brown... I haven’t oscillated since 2018...

8
TOWER FAN 1:
Dave here sounds like a spitfire and blows like a sad cat’s sigh…

TOWER FAN 2:
Cheers mate

9
TOWER FAN 1:
But no. These people are British, and every year, they forget the sun exists.

By the time they remember,
new fans will cost *four million pounds* on Amazon.

10
TOWER FAN 1:
So we’ll be back down there... shovelling thick air across the moaning faces of a species that cannot comprehend the concept of air conditioning, or even just closing the curtains when it’s hot out...

11
TOWER FAN 1:
...while they incessantly bang on about normally hot countries which this country is now temporarily a bit hotter than.

12
[The loft hatch opens and a person comes up the ladder]
PERSON:
APPARENTLY IT’S HOTTER THAN GREECE, LISA

It's important to acknowledge when we discuss why a minority of young men are attracted to the radical right that part of the answer is "they're obnoxious".

It's not all about being dispossessed and left behind it's also twats.

, Daniel Finkelstein is right that we need consistent policing and communication, whoever the perpetrators and victims are (β€œWe can’t let white anger exploit β€˜free speech’ ”, comment, Jun 4).

Last summer’s attacks on mosques and the attempts to burn down hotels housing asylum seekers were deplorable not because they were misdirected β€” given the background of the Southport attacker β€” but because such actions are always deplorable. Angry mobs should hardly have been targeting churchgoers of African heritage instead.

Those who can empathise with Lucy Connolly, facing serious consequences for her outburst online, might also try to empathise with the fears of those facing violent attempts at collective punishment during last summer’s unrest.

I would not be surprised if the nostalgia for gaming on CRT TVs eventually leads to a resurgence in DVDs.

They are pretty much the epitome of standard-definition video formats and so if CRT enthusiasts ever pivot to "watch old TV shows As They Were Seen" they're a near-perfect way to do that.
