@bsky.app Why have you allowed a verified ICE account. What's wrong with you? Why give credence to a fascist, paramilitary organisation?

17.01.2026 00:19 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Very happy to see this last thesis paper in press @natcomms.nature.com! We combine intracranial EEG with multimodal MRI to study how interregional similarity in neurophysiology relates to different network scales โก ๐ง
Full story ๐

We collected ~4.7 hours of task data on 3 participants, listening to 10 different categories to create a functional gradient space in which we could situate category structure, and infer acoustic and semantic dimensions.
Oh also, the data is open access! ๐ openneuro.org/datasets/ds0...
๐ง ๐ New preprint!
How does the brain organise natural sound categories?
In our new fMRI study, we show that auditory cortex arranges sounds along continuous functional gradients, where acoustic and semantic structure are integrated into a shared representational space.

I worked with Jonny for 5 years during my formative years as a scientist. He influenced how I see life deeply. Although I won't hear him explain things to me again, his words and kindness will live through those whom he inspired. We were so lucky to have him in our lives. We miss you a lot, Jonny.

It's about obstacles that slow down or prevent people from participating in clinical studies and the pace of initiating #ClinicalTrials. If you have experience or comments please message me and repost.
Just to be clear this is not something we can tell from this study and any suggestion that it might be seems dangerous to me.
23.05.2025 16:31 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This accumulating process has been obvious since at least 2021. I assumed Labour would reluctantly intervene to help. That they won't almost guarantees that UK academia will become an even more cruel/anti-intellectual place to work, even for those in RG universities. So I'm leaving.

The end of the mass university era in England and Wales is now base case in my view after the last week. Much of Blue Labour, much of Britain's Right and a great number of voters will welcome that. But it's an interesting and arresting example of minoritarian state policy capture.

Food that's high in salt, trans fats, and sugar are bad for health.
Whether the 'ultra processing' makes any difference to this is unknown.
two points on EHRC advice on trans people's use of public toilets:
1) trans people are being required to out themselves when using loo in public
2) how is it enforceable? What about cis people who don't conform to stereotypical appearance?
it's shit.

Incredibly flexible simulator brought to you by the talented @michielcottaar.bsky.social. Can feed arbitrary sequences (e.g. with pulseq) and model lots of microstructure features (diffusion, permeability, susceptibility, MT). Allows multimodal simulations. Fully documented and open. :)
