That's a fair point. I just find that this goes around as a knee-jerk reaction whenever it happens, and there's not a real proper discussion about pros and cons. Much like the perennial discussions about the monarchy or FPTP... Nothing will change because it's all flash in the pan stuff.

I guess my question is what happens if you're kicked out instead - would that mean a by-election also? That gives far more power to party leaders which I don't like either.

Now as I say I know that's a lie but what if it was a labour MP being honest about that? Or honest about their transphobia, especially if Wes becomes leader? Or honest about the genocide in Gaza, or trump, or something on 'our' side. People should be allowed to leave the party if it breaks a promise

I can't agree. We know it's a lie but she said she was quitting over the 2 child cap and that's the sort of pressure I think MPs should be quitting over, to put pressure on the govt for them to implement the manifesto they were elected on! She stood on a manifesto to scrap it...

My old work did Fat Fridays when they'd get a cake to celebrate but I can't think at all what else it stands for other than my favourite day of the week on this silly little app lol

What do they mean?

Would you have to beg them to remove the whip so you could keep your job? Or would you have to throw your principles under the bus?

I just think that leaving one party is completely different from leaving one party AND joining another.

Like I don't think you should be able to defect to another party, that's not right. But sometimes people have to leave their parties when their parties do something horrendous; like doing a 180 on minority rights.

It's so cold and dark and miserable I'm simply having to spend my time researching holidays.

Also her husband defected to Reform, then left 6 months later.
