I loved living there! Started my bachelors at OU fall of '06, stayed after graduating and didn't leave until our move to Norway at the end of 2020.

They're here!!! Got some mostly very tiny nymphs of Pseudoglomeris magnifica. This is my second time trying the species. The first time, they lived long but never reproduced. I know a lot more now so we'll see how it goes this round.

I didn't realize you're in Fort Worth! My best friend lives there. I used to either take the train down or drive from Norman for the weekend to hang out and adventure around. Sometimes I'd drag my tuba with me to work with her students. Man we had soooo many adventures!

Had a little buddy out today. Thought I'd try for a nice photo but there was absolutely no interest in sitting still.

Oh hey do you have that new Cicadas of North America field guide? I still haven't been able to get a copy yet but I bet you would love it if you don't have it already.

Yeah I feel that. For me the even harder thing would be a place with no Odonata. Though Norway only has 52 species and many of those are only very south of us. But we at least have them! We got the Oklahoma species list up to 176 before leaving so the diversity drop was huge and we miss it a ton.

Got to see my favorite female pick a mate!! Afterwards she went straight to the fish food. Lucky male pictured on my hand. A few minutes later she was back to... advertising? Two males were going crazy over that but she ignored them.

It iiisss! And part of our summer trip last year was in Italy and I could hear so many cicadas but never saw a single one! I used to be so good at finding them in the trees.

This is how I feel except now I live in a country with no cicadas so I'm sad (about the lack of cicadas).

The seeds look almost like candy.

So night before last I noticed the first babies from my Blaberus! Yesterday I was able to hold one just long enough for one photo before it yeeted itself back to the leaves.

I may be too far away to have joined a No Kings march, but my goodness have I been so happy to see the turnout from those who could! And I've enjoyed all the killer signs and costumes. I made a proper pumpkin pie to celebrate. Keep it up, guys!

So I learned a thing!

I love using picture tubes in Corel, but I hadn't yet gone and learned how to make my own. Well, I decided it's high time I do that so I followed a 4 cell tutorial, using some oribatid mites. I am now armed and dangerous.

Man, that stuff always sucks! Every time it happens all I can think is "wtf, body? We've been doing this for 37 years! How are we still f-ing it up?" Guess them lungs just want some of that F L A V O R.

I give a talk on science outreach soon(ish) so am working on my slide art. This is Simandoa conserfariam nymph I did. I'm reminded how happy my stubborn butt is that I made the switch from MS Paint to Corel. And my rainbow sheen idea worked! Yay!
