I got one of my brothers to do yDNA and no matches, I expected that for mtDNA (but have 2) not yDNA. Patience required (hard) and hopefully one day will get some. I know our family name changes at 3rd Great Grandfather due to illegitimacy, I have autosomal matches that confirm that.

I did mtDNA a couple of years ago fully expecting no matches but do have a couple. I have a rare for UK haplogroup M1a1b.

Sadly people say it's not worth it, as you won't get any matches. That of course is the case if people don't test.

One day I will get more and it will be helpful.

I've managed a spend a bit of time on DNA research this week and managed to finally resolve father & son matches that I've been trying to solve for a couple of years.

Plus, I think I'm close to a breakthrough on a large batch of unknown matches too.

There were 2 other bibles that were huge, sadly no room for them. More magazines too but settled for one year.

This site is very useful for working out townlands along with townlands.ie. The "Registration District Map Browse" option is very helpful when looking at Civil Reg Docs.

Donegal comes up in my Mum's which is great as I have traced her paternal Grandfather's family to there

Breakdown of DNA regions

I've lost any Viking but this is far more accurate than previous. South east england etc & southern Wales my only paternal (will be my hard to track Jones) rest maternal which fits perfectly with my tree and gives me clues to gaps in the maternal line.
