Should arts buildings remain in the arts community in the case of bankruptcy? The sale of UArts’ assets may hinge on the answer. The Pennsylvania Attorney General has objected to the Arts Bank sale to Quadro Bay, arguing that state law requires that the donor’s intent and charitable purposes of the property be considered.

The closure of UArts was an enormous loss for our city’s world-class arts community. The sale of its campus should prioritize buyers that will safeguard its legacy and uphold a vision of the Avenue of the Arts as a nexus of creative expression, collaboration, and education.
