I have been trying to tell anyone who will listen that right now we need a Teddy Roosevelt, an FDR, someone who is willing to break the robber barons and do the “unpopular” things the wealthy don’t want to see done but are necessary to claw back some power for those who don’t normally wield it

Trump tries to rewrite reality like it’s a bad tabloid story, but Epstein’s legacy haunts every chaotic move. No more sidestepping the truth. We demand Trump pay for his part in that nightmare before democracy burns to ashes.

Trump is obviously to blame for turning armed feds against blue-city Americans. But it's reasonable for us to be angry at Dems, too: in a retrospective way for not pre-empting this, and in a prospective way for not standing up for us. It's why their own voters view them unfavorably in microcosm.

I walk back to my apt every night after votes. Other than Jan 6, I've never felt unsafe in DC. Then again, I don't hang out with Gaetz, Jordan, nor the convicted felon at 1600 Pennsylvania. But if that's your statistical sample I can see how you might erroneously extrapolate this way.

Two things can be true:

1) The President has legal authority over the D.C. police and the D.C. National Guard that he doesn't have *anywhere else* in the country; &

2) Even if this doesn't set a legal precedent, it sets an ominous *political* precedent for pretextually overriding local government.

We stopped expanding the House in the 1920s, decided the Supreme Court should freeze in the 1930s, added the last states in the 1950s, amended the Constitution only once in the last fifty years.

The USA and its government continued to grow, but almost all that growth came in the executive branch.

The American people don't want fascism and are ready to fight, but the organizing forces that are meant to inform and support the people are failing.

I have worked on Fox-related media issues since 2016 and it is a huge problem and Dems did nothing to fight it. All that is true.

Yet the choice is “give up, and accept fascism and the end of America” or “try to change public opinion, fight, try something and if it fails try something else.”

Knowing who to be mad at is part of the work. Seriously.

I have been amazed (and deeply relieved) to hear even very conservative people in my community be very angry with Trump and this administration's actions. They would be glad to be rid of him ASAP.

Impeachment would be TREMENDOUSLY popular. Cannot fathom why Dems are not pushing for it.

And yes I totally agree with this. It’s been clear since January.

Democratic leadership massively misreads their base.

The D base is behind Dem leaders because they think D leaders are doing everything they possibly can to fight. But now they’re finding out the truth and are incredibly angry.

There are so many things which are insane about the Trump-Epstein scandal, but I keep coming back to Trump just thinking he could get away with making QAnon central to his movement, when he almost certainly committed crimes with Epstein.

So much incompetence, corruption and malice rolled into one.

Bring Articles of Impeachment every week on a different factual recitation of bribery. We've got to get performative and stop with hoping for a successful hit otherwise.

Excellent advice. I try to re-read it at least annually.

The founders tried to foresee the future America but couldn't have imagined where we are now.

Impeachment is not a reliable, perfect remedy for attacks on our constitutional rights; on our democracy. But it is what was provided for us and not employing it is a dereliction of duty by every MoC.
