The Department of Foreign Affairs must immediately demand the release of all those taken illegally by the Israeli military. “There have been enough words. The Irish government and other governments must take action to face down Israel’s genocidal campaign and to protect all those on the flotilla. “All those abducted must be released and the flotilla must be given safe passage to complete its humanitarian mission to ensure the people of Gaza receive the food and other humanitarian aid they so desperately need.”

Check out the preprint of our new paper, exploring the time use requirements for a life of wellbeing within planetary boundaries.
The bottom line? Lifestyle changes can lower emissions & improve wellbeing, but are insufficient to live well within ecological limits. We need radical system change.
Pat Brodie and I have a book coming out in October. Really hoping it can be useful for analysing the imperialist political ecology of big tech and the energy transition.
Big thanks to @kaiheron.bsky.social, @triofrancos.bsky.social, Anne Pasek (and others) for their generous words and engagement.
On Thursday I’ll travel as an independent observer of the latest Freedom Flotilla to Gaza.
Alongside human rights lawyers and international law experts, our role is to monitor and record any breaches of international law by Israel.
These flotillas act where the international community has failed 🇵🇸
two in three Keir Starmer tweets are dog whistling about migration.
A government out of ideas, adopting far right messages for no political gain, while imprisoning grannies for denouncing genocide.
The fact that we instantly ended homelessness during the pandemic, and then let it return as some intractable problem straight after, is something we really don’t talk about enough.

Microsoft data centres in Ireland & Netherlands were used to store terrabytes of Israeli military data used for mass surveillance in the West Bank and identification of strike targets in Gaza.

2. Absurdity is a hallmark of authoritarianism. It's not just that those who believe absurdities commit atrocities. It's also that those who endorse atrocities become absurd.
This is where Keir Starmer's government now finds itself.
Moygashel Bonfire
This is the Moygashel 12th July bonfire. Many bonfires receive huge funding and backing from loyalist paramilitary groups. The PSNI facilitate this and councils clean up after them.
This paramilitary backed hate is being justified live on BBC Radio Ulster. The state is rotten to the core.

An excellent writeup.
These are repulsive double standards from the British state, guilty of all manner of state terror, to young Irish artists. They represent a proud & radical political culture which does not conform to the sterile & 'Paddy'fied shadow of Irishness acceptable to liberal Britain.
Send Kneecap to prison? This moral panic has reached its ridiculous, feverish apex.
The band are mostly guilty of refusing to conform to a sanitised and twee idea of Irishness, writes @roisinlanigan.bsky.social.

scrapping it would add GBP 2.5bn yearly to government spending. That is 25bn over ten years.
Only last year, the Treasury paid the Bank of England around 40bn for its 'losses' on the QE gilt portfolio.
It didnt have to. No other central bank expects to be compensated.
