It is right to have epistemic humility, and awareness of the limits of our knowledge - but that doesn't mean we need to be open to absolutely every possibility.

In particular, I argue that a sort of intellectual pessimism has arisen that has the opposite of its intended effect. Instead of making people less susceptible to harmful false beliefs I worry it actually increases their risk of epistemic spirals. New Atheism is just the most glaring example.
