I never let them reverse in. Usually hot shot reserve pilots who wanted to. No sir, the tractor does that.

What’s objectionable here isn’t the political claim, although that’s wrong too. It’s national leaders behaving like the worst, smuggest jerk you’ve ever met, and clearly loving it. It’s a repulsive way of acting! In a movie you’d instantly know he’s the bad guy!

Shoulda got an indoor wedding venue and a car. Oh, and, I think, an iron? Idk.

Where are you guys gonna go outside? I won't meet you there, but i'll feel guilty about it, which is the important bit, I think.

The scariest thing to me is how fast all of the institutions that we thought we could rely on, the press, law enforcement, even colleges, rolled over as soon soon as they were asked to, like they had been waiting for this exact situation so they could surrender.

30-45 mins, or 20 minutes after you say "man, this edible ain't doin shit" and take another one.

Maybe we're being misled, right? But it sure seems like they go into negotiations with surrender in mind.

I've always thought so, but I was afraid to voice my opinion. Thank you for your courage.

Shut it down, how can that be worse than armed troops in our cities? Come on, at least fight, or walk out or do something besides participating in the fascism.

Yes! Please let the party's response to historical abuses, LIKE KIDNAPPING.. Ahem excuse me, tbat was uncivil. Please, democrats, come up with a wonky, small, concession, then give the jack boots what they want! America demands milquetoast "leadership" from our only allowed opposition party

12.09.2025 12:51 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Same response most of the US, maybe the world has towards bullying. And it's the same behavior, of course. Appease the bully, don't do anything to make them mad. Anything done to get back some of your own will be punished severely. Bullies win. Heartbreaking, wish it wasn't so, but there it is

It sure seems like the party line over the last few years. Im not saying that fighting for fighting sake is always a good idea, but if I were a democratic moc, I would feel pretty confident saying "gop will do as they wish, but not with my name attached to it."

Also, people really underestimate the mental toll that summer took on us. I'm gen-x and a veteran, and it was like a curtain went up. All the happy shit they told us all my life was a lie. No one particularly cared if anyone died, it was more important to shield the powerful from any accountability.

09.09.2025 18:05 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah this sounds plausible, folks brought hand sanitizer, extra masks. I didn't go down there so i'll defer to those who did, but the teens/20s people that left our house had that stuff, also first aid kits and lots of water.

09.09.2025 17:52 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes! The Revisionism is terrible! I'm in the Twin Cites, and we had police in my, well all of the suburbs manning roadblocks prepared to resist the hoards or whatever. Nothing came our way. The city is fine, was fine. It was a bad time, but not some civilization altering uprising.

09.09.2025 17:00 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I dont remember anybody saying it was cool, just that it was a risk, so mask up. Outside is slightly safer, but not safe, so take precautions. As has been pointed out before, the protests were important and, for some, worth the risk. Why do people get resentful about this?

09.09.2025 16:17 β€” πŸ‘ 25    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

It's maddening. Everyone I know is scared to distraction, terrified of any government agencies, and our Dem establishment thinks that the best thing to do is fund the authoritarian govt. Fight it, idgaf walk away entirely, but dont surrender with a pathetic, weak concession and a sad head shake.

07.09.2025 14:24 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah. It's too bad we can't redirect the righteous anger up. People would probably like to see someone, say Malcom Gladwell, for instance, in the stocks with rotten fruit available for throwing. Or what's his name, Dershowitz, or any of those annoying sycophants collecting paychecks from Nazis.

03.09.2025 22:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I will never understand why anyone cares that much. Are they such diehard fans of like HS girls' fucking track that their souls ache with the pain of the crippling unfairness of a 14 year old "cheating" by being trans? If so, I would venture to say their injustice meter needs to be recalibrated.

03.09.2025 21:34 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

3/3 I don't have an answer. I'm a middle aged technician, past my prime, smart enough to be afraid but too dumb or scared to come up with anything but a desire to hide from it like a kid curled up on the playground, elbows and knees blocking the worst of the kicks.

28.08.2025 16:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

2/3 but it doesn't matter, we just have to take it, and I can't do anything with the adrenaline, and the anger and the crushing, breaking sadness. The bad guys won, and, as is often the case, the good guys look weak and feckless arguing about it, and defining it, and fucking around on the edges.

28.08.2025 16:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

1/3 I guess i'm happy that we get frequent, thoughtful, more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger articles documenting our slide into dystopia, but i'm tired. The shooting in mpls broke my heart again. the occupation of DC is scarier by the day, more crazy shit from all levels of government, every day.

28.08.2025 16:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Stephen King said something like 80% of what one writes is trash, but you gotta get through the junk to get to the good stuff. LLMs so far don't seem like good editors, I expect that will not get much better over time, but also that a lot of people would find AI poetry good, and who am I to say no?

13.08.2025 12:39 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

See, thats my issue. It might be structurally sound with iambs and shit, but it ain't art if there's no artist. Art is a shared experience, between creator and consumer. If the creator is an algorithm, it's an incomplete circle.

12.08.2025 21:48 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Once shared, art is free of the artist, so individuals can find whatever meaning they like, but it needs a human behind it. I mean, rhyming is great and all, but any emotion has to be brought to the poem by the reader because the LLM can only simulate emotions. So it's unsatisfying, ultimately.

12.08.2025 21:44 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

On the bright side, cup holder armrests are standard in many modern cars.

12.08.2025 18:06 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Any meaning you get comes from you. LLMs are just patterns made with math. I could be wrong, but i think it's fundamentally a simulation of intelligence to convince intelligent people. Like a counting horse. She clops 5 times to indicate 3+2, but she doesn't know what any of that means.
