Day out with the group. First stop at the Museum für Brot und Kunst to see its current exhibition „Winzige Giganten“ (tiny giants) which includes pieces created by our very own PhD student Karo introducing our work on the impact of fertilization on the soil microbiome (project IMPALA)

Found out yesterday that my abstract was selected for a talk and poster 😱. All Emails were moved to Spam for some reason 🤯.

Had to go through the Editorial Board pinpointing to the publication guidelines. Got the strain in the end.

Once had the same argument with aomw guys from the US. Main result of a paper in Nucleic Acids Research was an E. coli strain to make extracts for SLiCE cloning (similar to Golden Gate Cloning and Gibson Assembly). Strain was commercialized after publication.

The additional task this year: isolation of bacteria that are able to degrade and utilize polysaccharides of macroalgae for our EU-project #iCULTURE

During steps 1 and 2 we got some really nice isolates with potent antimicrobial activity. And whilst fishing in the dark we also picked up some rally bright, luminescent guys. Back to lab, we are now doing the sequencing part to identify the biosynthetic gene clusters.
