For the second year in a row, a cicada killer wasp has taken up residence in the scant rectangle of dirt around my emaciated serviceberry street tree. Could be a horse guard wasp, but its terrifying torpedo size has me thinking cicada killer.

I love Bachelor Buttons. We had a lot of these when I was growing up on the Eastern Shore in Maryland. Have a pot of them on the roof. I also planted a packet of tomatillo seeds…but they are clearly radishes now?

Also, when I was growing up, my dad had a giant compass on the dashboard, and a cb radio.

We moved when I was 7 and the first year my mom got lost every time we went to the grocery store. We’d drive around & eventually find our way home. That’s how you learn all the back roads. I still buy the best available road atlas for every county I frequent. Signs & landmarks were important.
