This. "Vote blue no matter who" is such transparently a ratchet-tactic. It is not deployed thoughtfully as a strategy to build power. It is deployed to cajole people to accept a further and further rightward drift in the name of "pragmatism," and AGAINST any attempt at leftward movement.

This is a still frame from an episode of Star Trek: the next generation where Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the starship enterprise is stranded on a planet, with a leader of a people whose language is based in metaphor entirely. Eventually, Picard figures out how to communicate by referencing famous historical leaders from the people‘s history. But initially, it’s very confusing. This is thussly a joke on obscure references. The image has some fake subtitles that suggest Picard is saying “Miette, her body KICKED like the football”which is a much beloved, deep cut tweet where Patricia Lockwood was explaining that her cat was mad that she had slightly moved her aside with her foot.
