Let's hope Labour delivers. www.theguardian.com/law/2025/jul...
The UK just banned employers from using NDAs to silence workers who speak up about abuse and misconduct.
@zeldaperkins.bsky.social and @lexytopping.bsky.social discuss what it took to get there on Today in Focus. π

Hugely important win for victims, survivors and whistleblowers!
The legal system must never be weaponised to silence victims and survivors and allow perpetrators to abuse with impunity.
Massive thanks to @zeldaperkins.bsky.social @cbmsuk.bsky.social and all survivors who fought for this win
Wow. Where do we start.
We canβt quite believe it. This is such a huge victory, and is a win for all those who have bravely broken their NDAs and for all the incredible MPs, Peers, and allies that have helped us every step of the way.

Who holds the powerful to account?
A national UK study is investigating abuse by high-trust professionals - judges, doctors, clergy, military, police, politicians - and how NDAs bury the harm.

Zelda joins Jennifer Gibson (@psst-org.bsky.social) & Microsoft whistleblower Will Alpine to talk truth, risk & what whistleblowing looks like today.

New CIISA report shows Β£1.8B lost annually to workplace conflict in the creative industries - mostly from people quietly stepping away.
If we want to grow the sector, we need to stop using NDAs to cover up problems and start tackling them properly.

ICYMI...Our panel at @sxsw.com London last week to investigated whether whistleblowing is dead.
The answer? It's not. But we do need to evolve the way it is done to meet our current moment.

Excited to speak at the first SXSW London next week.
Whistleblowing is vital to a functioning democracy, but too often it comes at a cost.
Looking forward to speaking about how NDAs are used to silence truth, and what we can do to stop it.
During last weekβs Committee Stage debate on the Employment Rights Bill, Baroness Jones of Whitchurch gave what may be the clearest indication yet of Labourβs intent to legislate on NDAs
No backtracking. No excuses. Now is the time to act, and deliver the reform workers have waited far too long for
This is a crucial moment.
A group of amendments, led by Baroness Helena Kennedy & drafted with CBMS, have full cross-party & sector support. We need the strongest version to return to the Commons.
Every worker in every sector deserves full protection from silence and abuse.
Yesterday we delivered a @38degrees.bsky.social petition with @louisehaighmp.bsky.social signed by over 92,000 to 10 Downing Street, calling on the government to end the misuse of NDAs.
After 6 years of reviews thereβs no excuse left. With a govt supporting workersβ rights, the time is now.
Another testimony. Another reminder of what silence costs
NDA misuse isnβt rare, itβs systemic. Across education, media, healthcare...
Not isolated cases, but a culture of enforced silence
ποΈ MPs & Peers: join us May 7 (5β6.30PM) in Parliament to hear why reform must go further
BREAKING: @laylamoran.bsky.social just asked Keir Starmer
about NDA misuse at PMQs.
This is a huge moment.
We now have a public commitment from the Prime Minister - and with the Employment Rights Bill still in play, the opportunity for real legislative reform is within reach.

Just watched this take off in less than 24 hours. 20,000 people already demanding an end to abusive NDAs.
The government has an opportunity to put Labour values into practice by legislating to protect workersβ rights and remove barriers to work by taking action on abusive NDAs.
If the Opposition's Business Spokesperson is speaking up more clearly for workersβ rights than the party that's meant to be championing themβ¦ somethingβs not right.
Last weekβs NDA debate showed clear cross-party support. The govt must act: no worker should be silenced.
The abuse of NDAs to protect wealthy wrongdoers is a practice that must end.
Well done @louisehaighmp.bsky.social and @zeldaperkins.bsky.social. www.theguardian.com/law/2025/apr...
Great to see @laylamoran.bsky.social on @lbc.co.uk with Andrew Marr, calling out the misuse of NDAs in workplaces across the country.
NDAs have far outgrown their original purpose. While headlines focus on high-profile cases, itβs lower-income and vulnerable workers who are most harmed.
Know any Lords or Baronesses? π
This Thursday, the Employment Rights Bill moves to its second stage in the @houseoflords.parliament.uk!
Letβs make sure we get as many voices as possible to speak up in favour of an amendment to ban the misuse of NDAs. ποΈβοΈ

66 MPs backed @louisehaighmp.bsky.social's NDA amendment, yet the govt still looks away. We shouldnβt need parliamentary privilege to expose abuse.

11.03.2025 16:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is seen in the UK too. Some lawyers profit from making victims sign NDAs, pushing quick settlements for higher fees, and sometimes taking 50% of payouts through "contingency fees".
Urgent reform in lawyers' regulation is needed.

With the Employment Rights Bill being debated, this is a crucial moment, and amendment NC74 would protect all workers from harmful NDAs. It has a chance to be debated in the commons next Tuesday - write to your MP and urge them to support it.
This is how change happens.
