In all of this, can’t lose sight of fact that AI is here to stay. Def be mindful of threats, but gotta identify opportunities too and jump on them. Very likely the working world and capitalism as we know them are in line for some kind of disruption. We get to help decide what that world looks like

Def need guard rails to prevent egos from running wild, but gotta be careful or guard rails on this side of the Pacific end up only creating an opening for less constricted nations and actors who don’t share our values to run the table.

Important to be ahead of for sure. For now the new Sora app won’t let you generate a video if it has a picture of someone else in it. That doesn’t mean that a race to the bottom isn’t on the way where other less morally inclined services won’t put that power in anyone’s hands easily and soon

Can’t forget this one’s still hanging out there too. The way PKI’s price is stuck sub-39 on a deal for $44 a share says there’s more story to be written yet:

Keep going just a little more in the other direction while you’re at it to Vancouver Island. Jays hats and jerseys a plenty around Victoria yesterday!

Hard to say how that goes. A lot of us that would take the quick ferry ride in won’t be crossing the border under present regime, for safety reasons as much as on principal. Would be a fun matchup though!

Guy is just off. As a matter of survival we need to build ties with new countries. Carney is uniquely suited to get foot in the door with all of these countries. He’s doing exactly that and Poilievre is helping remind us. How many stagnant poll numbers until his party wakes up and smells the coffee?

Non-BlueSky social media negativity and overly reactionary hot takes drive way too much of the narrative. Too many news outlets are all to willing to run with it for the clicks. This place is amazing, and too modest on average to brag about what makes it that way

Meanwhile we have major Canadian media outlets running the memorial service/political rally for a political activist of another country as their top story. The coupling with American culture seems to be a tough one to break. There’s going to have to be an active decision to not go down with the ship

Irony is MAGA was born when a subset of the population felt they weren’t listened to and basically rose up to vote for the biggest meathead possible to break everything. Might not realize it yet but they’re building toward creating the same problem for themselves with every voice thats shut down

Paramount Skydance preparing bid for Warner Bros Discovery, source says Paramount Skydance is preparing a bid to buy Warner Bros Discovery , a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday, potentially bringing together two storied Hollywood studios and reshaping the entertainment industry.

last I saw it's in the "preparing bid" phase so guess not a foregone conclusion yet, but they'll have the money I don't think it runs into the same regulatory pushback it would under admins that allowed individual federal entities to operate independently:

Oliver is actually HBO, and I don't see him surviving this if it comes to pass:

unfortunately Oliver's probably toast once Trump's pal's deal for HBO/CNN/et all goes through

πŸ‘πŸ‘that’s perfect. Interesting to see if that keeps snowballing with Colwood, Esquimalt, Victoria, etc… makes too much sense to be in the same tent

Great success story in Langford these are. Do returns need to be in same region, or can you say rent in Saanich and return in Langford?

Would be a bit of torture to those of us in BC that would love to hop on the ferry for playoff Blue Jays ball but won’t touch USA with a 10 foot pole right now!

I’ll judge MC on results, but awful optics here that’s for sure. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if this was a giant turd dropped on gov by Trump & co as part of negotiations

Hilarious that the party is still gonna run with this guy and the same script that blew up on them once already. Canada. Doesn’t. Want. USA. Style. Politics.

Cool I know some that live on Alouette have wider concerns with safety vs speed of traffic. IMO cushions are πŸ‘ as is provided a person has tolerance for passing through at the speed they’re designed for. Another option for someone that isn’t a fan is to ask for cushions designed for a bit more speed

πŸ‘Antonovβ€”>Alouette is my main experience and concern personally. Might also be possible to help it by eliminating the last parking spot closest to the intersection or maybe adding one of these on the other side of the road?

With school coming up, the crosswalk coming from Belmont across Alouette is also that much safer with calmed traffic coming up the hill as much as I think a proper signalled crossing is still probably needed

There is definite support in the neighbourhood for them too. Turning left off of Antonov or Parkdale onto Alouette is a breath of fresh air, no longer taking a chance with your life each time. I’d like to see one more set halfway between the stop sign and the roundabout, but prob a winter problem

Folks this early in the game that already have an β€œeverything that he’s done list” are I suspect more solidly locked on the political spectrum than I. Trust comes in his background & knowing he’s got country’s big picture best long-term interests in mind. Haven’t seen anything that will change that

I trust that Carney’s making best decision in the big picture. I’m more concerned that he’s is running a ship so tight that Premiers aren’t even given a heads up, let alone being part of the conversation on making such a big decision. That leads to fractures like this that leave us more vulnerable

23.08.2025 17:31 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I trust Carney but man, that’s an F in communication. You have to involve Premiers in that conversation, especially one that’s been on the front lines of the fight. This could
turn around fast on him if he doesn’t start communicating with stakeholders more openly

Story from Victoria is just how visible the biggest Washington State fire is visible across the Salish. β€œBear Gulch” is apparently the biggest fire on the Washington Olympic Peninsula since the 1950s:
