Even without a detour, there is a bike lane there and I think it's terribly designed. That huge concrete block & fencing on the left makes it harder for drivers to see cyclists. They should add a no turn on red here, since drivers will creep up into the bike lane to see if cars are coming to turn.

The surprise detour I had to take on E 28th on my way to Perennial Cycle with my son in tow really, really, really sucked. That off ramp from 35W was a fairly close call from someone rolling through their red light not looking for bikes.
