The neoliberal consensus of Hayek, Friedman along with others ended up reducing the intellectual rigor of the billionaire and millionaire class. They genuinely think government spending and Keynes is evil. You can't have protectionism without industrial policy.

All that is happening is an evolution of our neoliberal system of Keystroke(credit creation, high interest rates, bailouts), Finance(banks, private equity, hedge funds, real estate), and Monopoly Capitalism.
