gonna need at least one other person whoโ€™s both on phils bluesky AND remembers the โ€œduran duran duranโ€ joke from DIANA, THE MUSICAL. alas, i might be alone here.

A president on the roof. Sounds crazy, no? But here in our little village of America, you might say every one of us is a president on the roof trying to enact a brutal agenda of revenge and self-aggrandizement without anyone noticing our brains are leaking out our ears.

everything you as a democrat hate about what trump is doing has been means tested on trans people. everything. the democracy you want to save, we were the test case for ending it.

and it started with making you angry about trans people in sports.

the trump administration is destroying ALL higher education but we only hear about the ivies because that's where the rich and powerful went or where their kids go. the obsession with them is missing the bigger picture.

oh for SURE, but even if the students did actually love it: what did they learn other than "oh boy, cool toy on computer"? stick figures my students actually drew themselves have so much more value than chatgpt 'art' and it's so sad to think an educator could disagree tbh

the students of delco deserve an actual education. you *know* this is not how students at villanova, haverford, or swarthmore are being taught, even if the schools incorporate those (ugh) tools.

even in new york, with all sorts of catholics, it doesn't really map the same way (although they have something close). "my teachers were in a union" has been the real heavy lifter for communicating the difference between aop schools and prep schools

i was really surprised to learn that non-prep catholic schools aren't really a thing elsewhere. i went to archdiocesan schools and am constantly explaining that those are different from the prep schools, which are different from the private schools...

its not the 50s that make damn yankees a period piece, itโ€™s the idea that the yankees are good at baseball, and i think thatโ€™s beautiful โค๏ธ

While I have everyone's attention, the genocide happening in Palestine -- in Gaza AND the West Bank -- is a crime against humanity.

Please raise your voice in defense of Palestinian lives. They are depending on us to remind those with power that they have a right to live.

songs from 1989 i'm confident i would have known in 2004:
-wind beneath my wings
-i'll be there for you (bon jovi, my mom was a huge fan)
-like a prayer
-eternal flame (would not have gotten the artist though)
-if i could turn back time

acl is already about the intertwining of the deeply personal and the curated aesthetic, and it invites memories. some of mine:
-failing to learn the opening via youtube
-singing โ€œwhat i did for loveโ€ in hs choir
-my first archival project
-my mt professor assigning non-actor me โ€œd:10, l:3โ€

i went to the alum event at lincoln center today (with @allieglick.bsky.social and @emdashfurlich.bsky.social !!). almost didnโ€™t go because itโ€™s hot and muggy and i had 7:00 tickets across town. it was 20 minutes long and i could only see the tops of heads.

i wept.

one of the most beautiful human experiences imo is getting to reencounter a work of art thatโ€™s burrowed so deep into your bones that you take your love of it for granted

not to put *too* fine a point on it, but juliet was also famously not yet 14. it's like the first thing we learn about her.
