you want your engineers to not to have learn about complex infra concept and tool hence you introduce another abstraction. and your abstraction leak. and now your engineers need to learn two things, that abstraction, and the tool altogether that is trying to be abstracted.

Any starter pack on Developer Experience/Developer Productivity/Developer Tools? I would love to both (1) follow and (2) be in one!

We build our platforms on top of ruins and I've just done 1 activity decluttering that ruins that was made over years I feel like I deserve a good pat in the back.

Have we done Platform Engineering in our Infra/Ops organization to boost our excellence of service? After we think that we are practicing Platform Engineering, is it making our Infra/Ops team happier?

If it says otherwise, then there might be something wrong. Or you should not have done PE first.

I like to think it as a recommendation of the plane's oxygen mask, where we are recommended to put one on ourselves first before putting to our families/friends. We need to save ourselves first, to be stable and secure, in order to do better in serving others.

And I would believe so does Platform Engineering to DevOps/Infra/Ops team. And for me, Platform Engineering is a mean for the Ops team to save themselves first as not to get burnout and able to address the requests from huge number of product engineers while keeping production services reliable.

I would agree with people saying that microservice is solving an organizational/social scaling issue, and less of a technical issue. Which we might've encountered on companies with larger scale and way more headcounts, and collaboration and communication is getting complex.

As Theo mentioned, the Indonesia tech community is yearning for another offline gathering in meetup and conference after long hiatus from the pandemic so it was really nice to see both familiar and new faces 🙂

A topic on abstraction vs exposition will be a neverending debate in building a developer platform but I would always be reminded by this saying from Joel Splosky on Cindy Sridharan's article in "Everyone is Not Ops".
