I’ve been using height: 100dvh to get a fixed-height fullscreen view on mobile, but iOS 26 Safari’s transparent toolbars are throwing me for a loop 😩

This also drives me bananas. I’m not anti-nuclear but it’s really good expensive and slow to build with no signs of that changing. On the other side the learning curve on solar, wind, batteries, and maybe geothermal is nuts.

The glass effects are growing on me. Some usages I really like: overlays on videos, the app folders on the Home Screen.

I'm going to try to rework it with two scroll-based animations, but I'm not sure what the cleanest way is to trigger a scroll animation in the X direction based on a scroll position in the Y direction (should only happen once you scroll down to dismiss the view)

This approach uses touchmove events to do the horizontal displacement and scroll-based animations for the vertical, but the touchmove event gets throttled during scrolling, so this is jank-city and Feels Bad™️

Just the vertical animation is Super Smooth, even on low-end Android

Current status: breaking my brain trying to recreate the iOS weather app transition using scroll-based animations and view transitions

If I wanted to understand what good native Android UI looks like, what should I read? What apps should I try?

Sometimes they are delightful. Other times it’s just visual noise to me, or actively difficult to read. I particularly don’t like them as notifications.

I will live with them and see how I feel after a week or two. They can be turned off
