Has the Port of Melbourne outgrown its prime slice of the city?
Australiaโs busiest port plans to handle even more containers from even more mammoth ships. But some think its time in the inner city might be nearly over.
The Port of Melbourne is rapidly expanding, subsuming neighbouring land as it prepares for double an already record-breaking number of containers. How big is too big for Australia's busiest port, right in the middle of the city? Report with @adamlcarey.bsky.social www.theage.com.au/national/vic...

โNaughty childโ: Mayor slaps parking ban on hire e-scooters
The Yarra councilโs new mayor lectured hire operators, likening them to naughty children who needed detention at school.
Riders will not be able to park rental e-scooters in 50 per cent of streets in the Yarra council area within weeks, after a vote on Tuesday night where the Mayor Stephen Jolly likened hire operators to naughty children who needed detention:

The shocking racist history behind this Metro Tunnel station name
George Arden was a racist who called Indigenous people violent, ignorant savages. The state government is naming a train station after him.
I was on a #Melbourne #MetroTunnel station naming advisory panel. Arden was a very popular suggestion... but we didn't know about the deeply problematic views of George Arden.
The State Govt should seriously consider changing the name, and do it now, before the tunnel opens. www.theage.com.au/na...

I don't know because the research only surveyed women but anecdotally lack of separated bike lanes does seem to be a common concern amongst cyclists I speak to in Melbourne.

Thanks for sharing. The issue is that lack of bike paths is a problem across genders and for everyone who rides a bike. The thing that is a unique issue for women is sexual harassment when cycling.
