For those who don't know, my site is at scalzi.com and I post there on an almost daily basis (as does @athenascalzi.com). You can also set it up in your RSS feed and can even subscribe to it via email so it feels like a newsletter. I don't charge money for any of it because I don't need or want to.

I don't post on Substack because I already have my own site where I post stuff, and have done for 27 years, and because Substack makes a lot of money off Nazis and fascists and I'd really rather not, thanks. I do have an account there but it's to secure my name. It has a cat photo.

... all to solve a problem (voter fraud by impersonation) that for all practical purposes DOES NOT EXIST. The rates are low enough to be virtually unmeasurable and as far as I know have never affected a US election outcome.

Even this is a massive understatement of the actual costs, since all of those things require advance planning, paperwork, and (in some cases) scheduling document retrievals (often only possible during work hours). The cost doesn't have to be high in dollars to be a prohibitive tax on voters.
