This afternoon we were weeding and mulching the 14 #trees we planted in Malling Close and The Martlets, #Lewes, in November 2024. They are 4 Parrotia persica, ( Persian Ironwood), 6 Platanus orientalis, ( Oriental Plane), and 4 Quercus palustris, (Pin Oak). Wish it would rain!

Still have #Swifts at our house - exits and entries today and a Swift at the entrance. Report of Swifts fledging from 3 nests in Southover High Street, #Lewes, on 18th July and the adults on 26th. No Swifts apparent in the King Henry's Road nest since 7.18 a.m. this morning.

This afternoon we weeded and mulched the five #trees that we planted along Brighton Road, #Lewes, in December 2023 - three Ulmus Lutece and two Crataegus persimilis prunifolia.

This morning we were weeding and mulching eleven of the #trees we planted at the top of #Lewes Cemetery as part of our "Trees for Bees" project with Lewes District Council in November 2020.

At St. Anne's Church, one #Swift flew close past us with a loud "whoosh" to enter nest 1 as fast as an arrow!
After a bit of a lull we saw and heard up to twenty Swifts screaming low over the junction of Western Road and Spital Road, #Lewes, before entries to nests 1, 2 and 3.

Such a lot of screaming #Swifts around #Lewes this morning! Here are some snatches of action around three of the nest boxes we installed in De Montfort Road - just before one flew out of a box.

Screaming parties of 11 #Swifts around St. Anne's Church, #Lewes, and Kevin saw an entry to a 22nd nest space there. Nick saw a Swift go under the eaves at The Workshop in De Montfort Road and we saw a baby Blackbird sheltering nearby. Chicks doing well in King Henry's Road!

Up to 50 #Swifts screaming above the junction of The Avenue with Bradford Road, #Lewes, this afternoon!

Six #Swifts screaming past our nest box -:one entry and one exit, and loud calls from the box. Up to 15 Swifts screaming along De Montfort Road and around St. Anne's Church,#Lewes, but no nest entries even though we waited until well after all the street lamps were on.

I think we may have some flowers coming on the Pomegranate at home, grown from one of the cuttings from the #tree in the High Street, #Lewes!

Up to fifteen #Swifts screaming around our survey area of #Lewes tonight. We saw entries to one of the boxes in De Montfort Road, our box in Valence Road, and two of the nests in Western Road. The chicks in King Henry's Road looked very snug and now have proper feathers.

Up to 16 #Swifts screaming above and around St. Anne's Church, #Lewes, tonight but we only saw two entries to nest 3.
Meanwhile, in King Henry's Road, there has been a lot of preening going on and the chicks are growing bigger every day.

The flowers on the Pomegranate #tree at the bottom of #Lewes High Street are really glowing today!

Up to thirteen #Swifts loudly screaming past the eaves of St. Anne's Church tonight from 8.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.
Amazingly, a thirteenth nest has been confirmed on the same house at the top of St. Swithun's Lane! That makes 101 occupied nests in #Lewes now.

A quieter evening in #Lewes but we saw a #Swift enter one of the boxes in De Montfort Road, entries to three of the nests at St. Anne's Church, three nests in Western Road and one in Valence Road.
