Lovely calm workshop at the Railway Land in #Lewes this evening - making a #Swift mosaic tile. The finished tiles will be used to refurbish the wellhead outside the Linklater Pavilion.

The two Liquidambar styraciflua Worplesdon #trees that we planted in Valence Road, #Lewes, in December 2016 are just halfway through turning red - and showing a lovely range of colours!

Sweet Chestnut seeds are now littering the floor beneath the ancient trees - another thing the Romans did for us...
It's a member of the Beech family and not the Horse Chestnut family.

Some of #Lewes #Swift Supporters met up yesterday for a litter pick and collected four big bags of rubbish.

A yellow winged Clouded Yellow butterfly resting on a ripe blackberry

Clouded Yellow butterflies are still being seen in the autumn sun - for example at Southerham Farm SWT reserve last week.

When they fly, their orangy upperwing colour stands out - at rest its their yellow underwings that are usually on display.

Enormous Medlar fruits on a #tree on Cluny Estate, #Lewes!

This Liquidambar styraciflua Worplesdon is growing to be a deeper red colour every day! It is one of the 13 #trees that we have planted in Prince Edward's Road, #Lewes.

There are so many luscious berries on the wildlife hedgerow we planted along the south perimeter of #Lewes Cemetery in February 2021 - Guelder Rose, Hawthorn, Rose Hip, Blackthorn and Spindle. #Trees for wildlife!

This Goldfinch has almost completed its moult into its full colour plumage, but you can still just see a few growing feathers on the head.

The Sweet Chestnut #tree at the entrance to Southover and Western Road Schools, #Lewes.

Yesterday we weeded and mulched the Platanus orientalis, (Oriental Plane), that we planted outside Southover and Western Road Schools, #Lewes, in 2015, and when the rain had stopped again we went to the Railway Land to look after the home-grown Oak #tree we planted there in 2020.

Huge thanks to Peter Thurman for his fantastic walk and talk around the #trees in Malling Deanery Arboretum, #Lewes, this afternoon. It was excellent. We had a lovely bunch of 24 people and it only rained for some of the time!
