A day in the rain - to plant Black Poplars at Laughton Greenwood, near #Lewes, in the morning and a Rowan #tree near Laughton Church in the afternoon.

What a beautiful day we had to plant the last batch of 57 #trees around Convent Field, #Lewes, this morning - four Crataegus x prunifolia Splendens, (Cockspurthorn), six Malus Evereste, (Crab Apple), and one Quercus ilex, (Holm Oak). Great work everyone!

Fantastic attendance of 1,500 people at #Lewes STEM Festival today! Here are just a few of the pendants to celebrate wildlife in #trees, chosen from those made by over a 100 young artists who came to our stall.

Fantastic attendance of 1,500 people at the #Lewes STEM Festival today! Over 100 joined us to make bug hotels, colour a #Swift fact sheet or make a Swift pendant. Some children sought us out to find out about Swifts because they love them so much - what more could you ask for?

16 more #trees planted around Convent Field, #Lewes, by our team today! They are 8 Sorbus thuringiaca Fastigiata, (Hybrid Whitebeam), and 8 Prunus padus, (Bird Cherry). We planted 30 trees there last Sunday and will be back next weekend to plant 11 more.

We hoped that the fine weather over the summer would help towards a recovery in insect numbers, and we seemed to see more while monitoring the #Swifts in #Lewes.
However, according to Buglife, their survey suggests a 19% decrease year by year.

We planted 30 #trees around the perimeter of Convent Field today! Later in the month we have 26 more to plant, thanks to generous sponsorship and support from Lewes District Council, Lewes Town Council, @friendsoflewes.bsky.social, the Mosaic Project, Chalk Cliff Trust and #Lewes residents.

Today, members of #Lewes Urban Arboretum, #Trees Committee of Friends of Lewes, were invited to the wonderful grounds of Northease Manor School to help to plant 165 mixed native whips. Great fun, very well organised, and lovely homemade soup made by Marcus Taylor!

Some of the beautiful leaves we collected from under the #trees at Southover Grange, #Lewes - from the Indian Bean Tree, Liquidambar, Tulip tree, Ginkgo, Chestnut-leaved Oak, Judas tree, and Japanese Maple.

Bringing sunshine colours on a rainy day - the golden leaves of the Cappadocian Maple, (Acer cappadocicum 'Aureum'), in Malling Deanery Arboretum. So many lovely #trees in #Lewes!

Some of the dazzling autumn leaves we saw on our visit to Malling Deanery Arboretum, #Lewes, yesterday to share information about the #trees with the owner. There were so many different colours and shapes!

On a little #tree in our # Lewes garden - Spindle leaves - Euonymus europaeus

Lots of Serotines, Common Pipistrelles and Soprano Pipistrelles on our #bat walk last night. The hot spot was above and behind two dead trees at the edge of Paddock Lane #Lewes.

Another beautiful Liquidambar! This one is at the end of Church Lane, #Lewes, and the carpet of leaves was a lovely reflection of the colours on the #tree.

Continuing our inventory of the #trees in #Lewes- this enormous tree at the front of St. Anne's Church has been identified by Peter Thurman as Phillyrea latifolia, (Green Olive Tree).

Lost Woods training leads to remarkable discovery: Hazel Dormice found in Lindfield after near 20-year absence Dedicated volunteers from The Friends of Eastern Road Nature Reserve found evidence of Hazel Dormice after months of surveying and monitoring.

"I couldn't believe they found them, it was remarkable."

Volunteers trained by the the Lost Woods Project have discovered a new population of Hazel Dormice in the Weald, at Lindfield, West Sussex.

Yesterday morning we had a lovely walk around #Lewes to map some more trees for our ongoing #tree inventory. With the expert guidance of Peter Thurman we recorded some real beauties, including this Red Oak, Quercus rubra, next to East Sussex College.

Every year I look forward to seeing the fiery Autumn colours of this Ash #tree on Malling Recreation Ground, #Lewes.

A stunning Ginkgo biloba #tree in the front garden of a House in Barons Down Road, #Lewes. The gentleman who lives there was just coming out to mow the lawn and he said that his mother grew it over 20 years ago and gave it to him when it was only a few inches tall!
