I raised serious concerns with The Trillium about the Student and Family Support Offices that opened Monday at TDSB and four other boards under provincial supervision—particularly what this model means for access, accountability, and student support.

We urge the Minister of Education to reconsider the decision to remove school board trustees. Instead, let's focus on strengthening their roles to further enhance our education system. Community input and representation are critical to maintaining a robust and responsive public education framework.

Trustees play significant roles in policy development, budget allocation, and improving student outcomes. They hold the education system accountable and have brought transparency to decisions that affect our children’s futures. Removing them would centralize power and diminish community influence.

Just before the holiday break, I spoke with The Trillium about potential school closures. With concerns raised by education critics and OPSBA, it’s clear decisions must stay with local trustees. I shudder to think of Parkdale–High Park families paying the price for reckless government overreach.

The Keele Street Public School community has so much heart ❤️

Today they filled a van with food and care items for the Parkdale Community Food Bank—while also benefitting from the City’s expanded school nutrition program.

Hearts (and bellies) are full this holiday season.

Local democracy isn’t outdated – it’s how we build better schools for our kids.

If the Ford government eliminates trustees, we lose more than oversight – we lose local democracy in our schools.

Keep education close to home.

When class sizes grow, students with disabilities are put at greater risk. Every child deserves safety and a fair chance to learn — not a system stretched beyond its limits, where parents bear the burden.
