A shiny, silver hybrid bike locked up by the side of a street. In front of it is a concrete planter painted with a white-on-red heart; it holds spindly plants. The bike has splash guards, a pannier rack, and a VERY big lock attaching it to a bike post.

Farewell Maisie, stolen but never forgotten. May the people who took you suffer flats on every tire they ride. Granvy and will keep your spirit with us for as long as we roll.

Every Canadian Election I approach all the different party leaders and see if they will do an interview / Hip Flip. Here's a clip of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Check out the *FULL* interview at youtu.be/TZmh_PNMImE Doot doo !

Just completely untenable for the GOP. There’s a market collapse, there’s probably going to be a recession, the cause literally could not be more clear, and they simply cannot acknowledge anything is happening lest they suggest Great Leader might have erred. They’re pinned to the wall, end them

This is a very different approach to affordability from what Canada (or any other large developed economy) has done so far of late. Will be interesting to see details.

One silver lining of the next few years is that thousands of Canadians who decide to do more travel close to home are going to gain an appreciation for other regions they might not otherwise have. It becomes much easier to stay committed to holding this improbable country together.

Photo of a Google Pixel 6 Pro phone sitting face-down on a fabric couch. There are two stickers on the back: centred on the bottom is a rounded-rectangular blue sticker reading "I FIXED IT" with an Ifixit logo on the left. Near the centre of the phone is a circular sticker like a crest reading "FIX THE WORLD" and "IFIXIT" on the outside, framing a globe and an Ifixit logo.

I remember when swapping my phone battery just meant prying open the back cover, and I could do it whenever I needed to keep it going. Huge thank you to @ifixit.com for moving modern electronics back to that world. Looking forward to another year or two with my Pixel 6!

On this day in 1967, Pierre Elliott Trudeau declared β€œThere’s no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation,” and since then, we’ve legalized same-sex marriage, banned conversion therapy, and fought to protect trans rights.

1. Construction jobs
2. Demand for materials
3. Allowing people to live closer to jobs, transit, etc.

Build the homes, protect the economy.

"What we face is a U.S. president who is quite openly saying two things, over and over in public and on camera: he doesn’t believe that Canada should exist as a country... and so long as it does, any kind of industrial prosperity enjoyed on the north side of the border is by definition illegitimate"

That old saw about how β€œgood times make weak men” is true in the sense that stable times with material abundance create reactionaries who want to destroy the systems that protect them because they’re too sheltered and stupid to understand that things can get meaningfully worse.

What is Justin Trudeau’s legacy on climate?
- Transformative climate policies. This is the fed govt that finally moved from announcing targets and plans to actually adopting policies
- Achilles heel on oil and gas.
- The legacy is fragile but is that Trudeau or Canada?
Bear with me for a long 🧡.

And just like that, being of a certain age is enough to be slapped with β€œprobably enemy combatant” status.
