Italian citizenship referendum void after low turnout
Only about 30% of Italians cast a vote - well below the 50% threshold needed to make a poll binding.
🗳️ Why it matters
Italy just voted *NO* to a referendum that would have shortened the residence requirement for citizenship.
Our findings suggest: when access remains slow and selective, citizenship rewards those already integrated
