Martyn Cornell's major study of the origins, history & revival of Porter & Stout, published posthumously. A great legacy.

So frustrating that another brilliant test series has been hidden behind a pay wall. Such a missed opportunity to show kids just how fantastic proper cricket can be.

Thank you for the reminder. I think today should be National Pogle Day! Slightly confusingly, the show originally appeared within a strand called Clapperboard...

Played that album to death when I was 13. MFP was a fantastic range for those of us with next to no pocket money.

Sitting in the garden on a lovely summer evening drinking a Christmas stout. It’s anarchy here.

"Is Britain about to blow?" asks Matt Goodwin promoted a two hour special event on the subject.

Their greasy desperation for violence and carnage, so they can profit off it, is so disgusting.

Enormous thanks to all the judges who made yesterday's International Beer Challenge judging such a success. Great beers, great knowledge, great fun. #IBC2025

Looking forward to judging the IBC tomorrow at The Oval, London. Taking on the role of table captain once more which means my fat fingers on the keyboard typing up the judges comments and awards. Will be good to catch up with old friends too 🍻

Display board with a last paragraph reading: 'The Nazi Party's path to power was not an inevitable, triumphant march. The defensive measures of the state and civilian resistance never came together to form an effective counter-force. The Weimar Republic failed because people didn't oppose extremism vigorously enough.'

The Nazi Documentation Museum in Munich is fascinating and highly educational but, of course, very sobering. The displays and text are easy to follow and there's an important message – one that is very neatly encapsulated in the final paragraph of this image and is begging to be shared.

Interesting painting of a Munich beer garden from 1884 by the artist Max Liebermann (in the city's Alte Pinakothek). Notice how all the beers are dark.

Still one of my favourite newspaper headlines of all time, from 1995. The brewery later apologised unreservedly and good relations were restored.

Farewell to the Fed. The old Federation Brewery site in Gateshead is to become a Β£40m multi-storey golf & leisure complex. The Fed supplied working men's clubs since the end of WW1 & briefly brewed Newcastle Brown Ale before Heineken moved it to Tadcaster, losing its protected geographical status.

Work continues on our next book project, Box of Delights: The Story of BBC Children's Television – 1967-1997, written by Richard Marson. Drawing on over 170 candid interviews and clocking in at over 500 pages, the book promises to be the definitive account of the department's extraordinary output.
