I would like to agree with your statement, but believe Denmark is always pushed forward as an example of a centre/left government with harsh anti-migration policies that led to a decline of the far right parties. Is there a credible explanation for this?

An important lessons for the wider European debate to me is the - from political science completely unsurprising - dynamic that Starmer with his harsh anti-migration rhetoric is losing support amongst Labour/centre-left voters but also failing to (re)gain support from Reform/populist voters.

The belief that the effectiveness of right wing immigration scaremongering is remotely linked to actual migration statistics, and if you can get those low enough they'll be defanged, is so endearingly naive.

Like how a child raised by monks in a secluded temple might imagine political debate works.
