I am sickened by the relentless demonisation of refugees.

No refugee underfunded a school.

No refugee closed a hospital.

No refugee took away support from the sick and disabled.

We need solutions not scapegoats. Stop blaming refugees and tax the rich instead!

Also took a trip down uni memory lane this week with Sheff docfest. Took me a little while to realise most filmmakers are NOT interested in hearing about which shop was here back then, or how this bus is stopping in different places now 😂🤦‍♀️

Had to get my i10 battery changed a few months ago (it was due). The engineer who gave me the jump start to the garage said that they’re great little cars that just keep on chugging along without a lot of extra care. Never have I felt more vindicated 💪

So true in any profession. Hard work doesn't always equal success, and success isn't just because you worked hard. That doesn't mean you DIDN'T work hard, but it's not usually the deciding factor. I'm well aware of how much luck has had to do with all of the things I've achieved so far in my life.

I think disco is easy and straightforward if you’re receiving music that you need to download (i.e for music supervisors). For everyone else I’ve found Reelcrafter to be a bit more intuitive

People who use AI to make "art" and claim they truly are artists are the kids who would trace a picture of a giant squid from a book in year three and when they got caught out exclaim that everyone else is just jealous of their brilliant giant squid drawing.

Exactly. They’re saying “we’ve never trained AI on our users music!” Yet the terms of use say they can. They’re saying “we don’t use Gen AI!” Yet they very clearly do.

So many holes in this explanation and the entire statement. It’s making me even more suspicious than before

Because I suspect it is actually being used to train their AI partners Gen AI music tools. The ToS are deliberately vague so they have plausible deniability, but until we know their Gen AI tools definitely AREN’T trained on our music, I’m going to assume otherwise

Exactly. The rep outright said that they don’t train AI with user uploads, but that’s exactly what the Terms of Use says they’re allowed to do. It may not be Gen AI it’s being used for, but when they have Gen AI tools, it’s more likely that this IS what the trained AI is for

The rep for #SoundCloud says "licensed content" is prohibited from use, but @renderg.host makes the excellent point here about music *not* licensed by major labels - i.e. smaller artists.

The claim is no generative AI exists, but what about these tools? Opt out isn't enough, it should be opt in

Unlikely, considering SC announced these generative AI music tools around the time of these T&Cs. Nope, I’m afraid we’ve been played for fools and our music is unwittingly being fed into SC’s generative AI press.soundcloud.com/234082-sound...

I can’t find any place on the app where you can easily opt out. And as I can’t provide any additional agreement mentioning a third party, I’m a sitting duck. I’ll be removing my music in the next few days.

Just to provide for context, it seems that they WON’T use any material for AI training in which there’s a separate agreement with a separate third party involved (I.e, a publisher), but if you’re unpublished and doing it all yourself, you’re fair game apparently 🤷‍♀️😡

This is so utterly disappointing. SoundCloud has always been a bastion for the unpublished (and many a published) artist. No more it seems 🤦‍♀️
