Whatever ideas you might have about Sophie Kinsella's books, I found them charming and witty, and found an often-needed perspective. Rest in peace.

Every time I think about Richter just hitting play on β€œOn the Nature of Daylight” I have to stop and rub the bridge of my nose. At LEAST do a new arrangement a la Michael Nyman!

Historical accuracy be dammed, obviously. I can get that. But making Hamlet a prop for grief porn is too far.

Hamnet sure had a lot of acting! Jessie Buckley is really great: the physicality, the dynamics she found in simply written scenes, etc. But the overall film can’t help but undermine any faith in fiction, in metaphor. It makes everything literal, and so, feel empty.

Waded into All’s Fair out of anthropological interest. Ryan Murphy remains the ultimate Karen. What’s surprising(ish) is that Glenn Close is worse than Kim Kardashian.

Watched the first episode of Wong Kar-wai’s Shanghai Blossoms. Incredible. All his sumptuous style and historicizing + flashes of pulpy mystery fun. Already crave more.

The Thanksgiving parade is the highest form of American art. Driven by capitalism but entirely earnest, bizarre in ways you can never expect, absolutely packed with Broadway stars freezing their asses off. There is really nothing we do better than

Finally taking my turn with After the Hunt. Horrible, obviously, in its contempt for academia and weird assumptions about intellectual rewards. But honestly the score is the most offensive part. Just absolutely awful.

Sorry, Baby was so highly recommended. But, oy. I haven’t been so incensed by a movie since The Whale. She’s who Lena Dunham mocks. (Also, zero research into how academia works. Just zero.)

Oscar Isaac says he is open to returning to STAR WARS but is doubtful about Disney after they suspended Jimmy Kimmel.

β€œI’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great”
