I like the rain—less traffic 😏. Late Aug–Sept in Scotland: 15–20 °C,. fewer midges. I’ve often found it driest then—sometimes a “false summer” ( heatwave) About then! But good waterproofs are still key. Wish I could control the weather.

Too many deer on big estates, but owners profit from hunting so don’t want to cull them. Meanwhile, deer eat young trees. Tree planting is often just greenwashing—small fenced plots to say they’ve done something. Land is owned by big firms, many not even based here. It's a deeper issue.

Some parts of Scotland are called the 'desert of life.' I can see why you'd associate that with the Southwest, it's not natural. In the 1700s, most of Scotland's trees were cut down and never replaced, leaving the land barren. Before that, Scotland was covered in forest, much like Canada is today.

Yh I wish wolfman still mead them. I cant get the clip anymore. I had fit new ones. They now make dry bag style tank bags. I just use a dry bag inside. I put my camra gear in. Easy for me get to. This tank bag is my hand bag lol. I love the pockets on the sides. I used have pins on them.

Only needed to replace the clips. 20L capacity still handles shopping and travel gear with ease. Discontinued now, but no replacement has matched it.

Mount Famine to South Head

Scotland was mead for bikers.

A stone marker, built by soldiers in the 1750s, reads “Rest and Be Thankful”—named because weary travellers and military road builders would pause here after the steep climb. The area has a long history of landslides due to unstable slopes, with major events every few years. Ongoing roadworks and landslide barriers are visible, highlighting the challenges of maintaining this vital route.

From my experience, being a woman rider hasn't been good. I've been pushed out, rejected, treated like an outcast for having skills that go beyond the stereotype of what a woman rider “should” be. I’ve been pushed down, made to feel small, as if being born female is a joke. I’m not tiny boots and cute poses—I’m nobody to them. Only 6 women entered Dakar out of 250 men. Women are suppressed, so fewer even try. Most can't afford it—racing, bikes, vans. If you're not a supermodel on a bike, you're invisible. I want to change that. I want women to have a voice. But I'm tired. After 26 years of sexist BS, I ride alone now. I’ve pulled away from the motorcycle community after hitting too many walls. I won Baja 1000cc in the women’s class—because I was the only woman. That’s not a challenge; it’s a warning. Women like me are rare. We ride anyway.
