I like the rainโ€”less traffic ๐Ÿ˜. Late Augโ€“Sept in Scotland: 15โ€“20 ยฐC,. fewer midges. Iโ€™ve often found it driest thenโ€”sometimes a โ€œfalse summerโ€ ( heatwave) About then! But good waterproofs are still key. Wish I could control the weather.

John Swinney rules out reintroduction of lynx to Scotland The first minister tells farmers that no carnivorous species will be reintroduced under his government.

Talked about for long time now. Helping forests grow. But reintroductions face pushback: wolves were hunted out for killing livestock; farmers still oppose them. Lynx cat would be best. but plans stalled due to fear, politics, Farmers www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Too many deer on big estates, but owners profit from hunting so donโ€™t want to cull them. Meanwhile, deer eat young trees. Tree planting is often just greenwashingโ€”small fenced plots to say theyโ€™ve done something. Land is owned by big firms, many not even based here. It's a deeper issue.

Some parts of Scotland are called the 'desert of life.' I can see why you'd associate that with the Southwest, it's not natural. In the 1700s, most of Scotland's trees were cut down and never replaced, leaving the land barren. Before that, Scotland was covered in forest, much like Canada is today.

7-year-old Wolfman motorcycle tank bag, used daily as main transport. Remarkably durableโ€”still going strong after over 70,000 miles across Europe, including trips to Spain, the NC500 in Scotland, Orkney, Wales, and all over the UK. Only needed to replace the clips. 20L capacity still handles shopping and travel gear with ease. Discontinued now, but no replacement has matched it.

View of The Rest and Be Thankful, a historic mountain pass in the Arrochar Alps of the Scottish Highlands. The A83 road winds through steep glens surrounded by lush green hills and rugged peaks. Low clouds cling to the slopes, adding drama to the remote, misty landscape. The pass sits at the junction of Glen Kinglas and Glen Croe and offers panoramic views of the surrounding highlands. A stone marker, built by soldiers in the 1750s, reads โ€œRest and Be Thankfulโ€โ€”named because weary travellers and military road builders would pause here after the steep climb. The area has a long history of landslides due to unstable slopes, with major events every few years. Ongoing roadworks and landslide barriers are visible, highlighting the challenges of maintaining this vital route.

A moody view of Inveraray Pier on the shores of Loch Fyne, with the historic red and cream puffer boat Vital Spark moored on the right. Calm, seaweed-speckled waters reflect the boat and the surrounding misty Highlands. In the background, forested hills fade into blue-grey tones under a heavy, clouded sky. Vital Spark is a famous Clyde puffer, a type of cargo ship once essential to Scottish coastal trade in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This particular vessel is named after the fictional boat from Neil Munroโ€™s beloved Para Handy stories, which humorously chronicled life aboard a West Highland steamer. Loch Fyne, Scotlandโ€™s longest sea loch, was historically vital for fishing, trade, and naval routes, and today itโ€™s known for its oysters and scenic beauty. The scene blends history, folklore, and Highland atmosphere in one peaceful moment.

A photo of my motorbike parked along the quiet B828 road in the Scottish Highlands. Sunlight breaks through the clouds, casting a golden glow over the bike and the surrounding moorland. The narrow, winding single-track road stretches into the distance, flanked by rugged hills, patches of wild grass, and heather. The B828 is a remote route near Loch Goil, offering dramatic Highland views with very little trafficโ€”perfect for solo riding and scenic exploration. The sunlight catching the bike highlights its details and upgrades, making it stand out against the natural, earthy backdrop.

๐ŸŒ On the Echoes of History: A Moment to Reflect ๐ŸŒ
Today, we remember VE Day, a turning point in human history. May 8th, 1945, marked the end of World War II in Europe, a victory over tyranny and despair. But as we honor those who fought for peace, we must ask ourselves: What have we truly learned?
In 2025, the world finds itself repeating certain patterns. Tensions rise. Divisions deepen. The quest for power continues to blind us to the shared humanity that unites us all. We can almost hear the whispers of history, calling us to wake up โ€” to see the lessons written in the ashes of the past.
History is not just a collection of events; it is a mirror, reflecting the choices we make, the paths we follow, and the consequences of ignoring our shared responsibility. In every generation, the shadows of war and peace stretch across the globe. And yet, despite the clear lessons of the past, we often find ourselves trapped in the same cycles.
Is it possible we have forgotten the true meaning of victory? ๐ŸŒน
Victory is not merely the absence of war; it is the presence of understanding, compassion, and the courage to face our collective flaws. It is the willingness to rise above divisions and seek unity in a world that is still divided.
The question today is not simply: What have we overcome? โ€” but rather: What are we still willing to overcome? Can we break free from the patterns of history that chain us to old conflicts and divisions, or will we let the lessons of VE Day fade into the background of our noise?
Let us not celebrate history blindly, but instead, let it awaken us to the need for change. The victory of the past is not a final chapter โ€” it is an invitation.
What will we choose, as the world stands on the edge of tomorrow?

In 2025, the world still wrestles with division, fear, and power.
To remember is not to dwell โ€” it's to learn, to guard peace, and to choose differently.

From my experience, being a woman rider hasn't been good. I've been pushed out, rejected, treated like an outcast for having skills that go beyond the stereotype of what a woman rider โ€œshouldโ€ be. Iโ€™ve been pushed down, made to feel small, as if being born female is a joke. Iโ€™m not tiny boots and cute posesโ€”Iโ€™m nobody to them. Only 6 women entered Dakar out of 250 men. Women are suppressed, so fewer even try. Most can't afford itโ€”racing, bikes, vans. If you're not a supermodel on a bike, you're invisible. I want to change that. I want women to have a voice. But I'm tired. After 26 years of sexist BS, I ride alone now. Iโ€™ve pulled away from the motorcycle community after hitting too many walls. I won Baja 1000cc in the womenโ€™s classโ€”because I was the only woman. Thatโ€™s not a challenge; itโ€™s a warning. Women like me are rare. We ride anyway.
