The "it's gonna hurt me more than it is you for me to cut your balls off, but you'd rather it be me than someone else so I'm doing you a favor" look.

If they are truly people of faith, then it must influence their decisions and actions. (Faith without works is dead) Otherwise you get Trumpian exploitation of Christianity

It is best for them to be transparent and open to scrutiny than it is for them to hide how they arrived at a crucial decision

Im 42 years old and it's been the messaging for US politics as long as I've been alive. Also was before me (see Jimmy Carter).

And also, he's not entering politics! He was a 2 term governor πŸ™„

Apparently some Dems haven't learned a lesson from Kamala Harris' campaign.

It's a classic for a reason and I still teach it even though it talks about type writers! Umberto Eco's How to Write a Thesis. Yes, it's for grad work, but makes everything sound possible!

Invite the author to Texas in mid-August.

The problem with solving this country's problems is reductive comments like this. It may feel good, but it perpetuates the idea of a simple solution to complex intersecting issues.

Inversely, most of my colleagues who complain that they never get a chance to write are the ones publishing (and publishing quality work to boot).

Congrats Dion! I'll be going to LEST in Leuven this October, if you'll be there then let's meet up. Otherwise I could come up to you

Curious, did they sort the books in alphabetical order according to first names or is it just a coincidence that the adjacent book was also written by a Massimo?

I was 'floated' the possibility of being commissioned at a high rank by a naval recruiter in high school. If I went to Navy (the university), when I graduated they would bump me up. Alas, I got into my first choice school and turned it down.

It's a great recruiting tool though, almost took it.

Agree, with a team named Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, you kinda already know what you're getting into.

Yeah, I found this to be an ironic expose of the author's lack of research.

I don't even watch him often and I know that Tapper has talked about the issues the author raised. If people don't watch the news or don't want to be informed, that's on them.

News networks can't assign homework.

Again, though, theatres suck. Way too expensive, obnoxious people, often poor projection, and too expensive for what it is. If you want ppl to go to theatres then push theatres to up their game.

All those are justifiable exclusions, and the final season never happened

20.04.2025 20:24 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, because that's how that works. It doesn't matter what your beliefs are, stripping the exemption does more harm than good. This is about unintended consequences, not one's personal POV about religious institutions (which again, includes atheistic/humanist orgs which enjoy the same exemption).

17.04.2025 18:42 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The response re: Harvard shouldn't be "tax churches!" Religious orgs (including humanist/atheist orgs) will lose exempt status & move to Public Good exemption brackets (nonprofits).

Thus, politicians will choose who is exempt, furthering some agendas, silencing others.

This actually *helps* Trump!

You might be better looking at 'Catholic intellectuals' like Ross Douthat, Jordan Peterson, or maybe JD Vance? Maybe look at whom they reference?

Maybe check out First Things as well, I've not looked at the journal/periodical in a while but they lean that way.

I really don't know anyone current that is taken seriously outside of their own bubble. Stephen Bullivant, Jacob Phillips, and Andrew Meszaros are followers of Natural Law but their work is focused on other things.
