This green anole did not wake up friendly midafternoon today, which makes perfect sense to me. The insulation around a potted lemon tree probably made a great place to sleep in cold weather until I came along to unwrap it, uninvited & not even announced. A warm day is no excuse.

Two bluebird patches are arranged as if the birds stand on green grass under a budding tree, examining 3 blue stones that might be seeds or fruits. Two silver hearts hang from the tree, as do many colored flowers, represented by glass beads, and a few green leaves, some represented by glass beads. The sky behind the birds & tree is painted yellow. The frame around the scene is painted a glittery blue.

Other than the glue & paint, everything in this homemade doodle failed at its previous task:

bluebird patches never would stick to a backpack;
silvery hearts snapped off impossible shoes;
glass & malachite beads fell from broken necklaces.

Together now, they all seem better.

Looking up through the open frame of a pergola or gazebo, through leafy liveoak trees (bright green in January), to the blue winter sky. Rough brown bark belongs to the liveoaks. Smooth white bark belongs to Lagerstroemia speciosa, aka crepe myrtle aka banaba. I prefer to call this structure "gazebo" because I like the word. I understand that "pergola" is correct for an open roof like this; correctness is good, but not good enough to overcome how cool the word "gazebo" is.

In my memory, this pavilion is mainly orange; looking at the photos now, I see many other colors. Maybe it's mainly green or red.

Sometimes I remember how calming this pavilion was in its quiet city park. I haven't been there for almost a year. It could be time to go again.

A white lemon flower is in the crack between yellow walkway stones. Brown leaves are in the same crack.

A bee was sniffing around a bit of white fluff on the ground this afternoon. I figured it was more junk blown in by the storm & I should pick it up. It was a lemon flower. The bee wasn't wrong, though probably disappointed. I left the flower there.

While stuck at a traffic light tonight, I watched a dog+human dance in a carwash parking lot. The human spun; the dog ran around the human. The tall human stopped, looking down at the dog; the little dog stopped, looking up at the human. The light turned green so I had to go. The dance continued.

I was just wondering when Cookie Season might be. Must be coming soon, right? Thanks for hearing & answering my question, & for sending cookies to me here in Texas.

The red hood of a truck, smooth metal, is covered by rough-textured ice which is covered by a few sparkling icicle tips (fallen from the nearby house) and brown leaves (fallen from the nearby tree).

The red truck parks outside, so it experienced some weather. Over the smooth metal, the frozen coating is bumpy, I think because the frozen rain was so rough. Monday afternoon, as the first melt started, tips of icicles began falling, mixed with some leaves. It's all melted now.

This is blue because I painted a $1 cabinet door sample, once chalky white with many black smudges. Blue is better. It has a white cut-out tree design because I found & painted & glued it there. That's how my art is: I find odd things, shine them up a bit, stick them together.

Most of what grows in my garden has been there many years & I don't worry much about it in most weather, but this has been a strange winter. Friday, I brought in cuttings of several favorite vines to try rooting clones, in case the originals don't survive this big freeze.

Looking through sheer curtains out a south-facing window at liveoak trees. Hanging on the curtain rod are 2 sparkly decorations: 1 in the shape of a crescent moon with a face, facing 5 small stars; 1 in the shape of a crescent moon made of open filigree, facing 1 large star and with 3 pendant wires holding blue & clear crystals.

Outside, still very frozen this afternoon & I haven't found a good reason to go out there. Inside, I spend a lot of time looking out the window, wondering what's happening outside.

Green tomatoes have a good, strong taste. They're easy to slice, interesting to look at, & I might like them better than red ones on pizza, though I enjoy both. I picked 12 more tiny green ones just now, before the coming weekend freeze.

Heavy cotton fabric is woven in stripes of yellow alternating with shades of blue. The center of the yellow stripe is raised in a diamond pattern.

I don't know how to weave but I admire those who do. Sometimes I wish I could do it, too.

Initially, in peripheral vision, I saw this as a spiderweb. Then it quickly became a treetrunk. The moment of transition was fun.

Standing under it in daylight, this small solar-powered sun is just a glittery shape. In darkness, the path to get back under it is too rough for me but from a distance it shines bright orange, sometimes perfectly round, sometimes showing its shape. My hand moves, I think.

In a group of unripe (green) tomatoes, some are beginning to turn yellow. Water drops show they have just been rinsed.

Preparing for tonight's freeze (warning, anyway; I want to believe) means I collected all the green tomatoes I could get from my garden. It's enough to do something with. Probably I'll slice them up to bake on pizza.

I didn't see the squirrel do it. These lightbulbs are probably fine; I'll find another place to use them. The outdoor lights stopped working because a squirrel chewed through the electrical wire connecting them. Allegedly.

Coreopsis in my garden should be asleep, not awake & flowering Jan 15. Flowers often disregard my opinions, especially about scheduling, but I'm starting to suspect that they don't listen at all.

Most of my bookshelves are like this: books in the back; small odd things that interest me in the front. That's for convenience, so if I ever tire of examining the small odd things I can easily find a book to read.

Signage regarding dogs often expresses warnings (Beware!) or rules (Leashed!); this one is a friendly invitation to drink clean water. Water = welcome.

Dogs probably can't read any of these words. Maybe their humans help with translations.

The weather was a bit chilly, so it's sensible for a bear to wear a yellow cap. Dancing might also be a way to keep warm.

In January 2022 this pink pot held an anthurium plant with bright white flower spikes in glossy red heart-shaped spathes. I don't have any photos from those days. These days, the plant is long gone but the pot is still useful, holding seed packets for the coming spring.

A rusty metal bucket holds a collection of metal flowers in shades of blue, red, and yellow. It also hold, on a wooden post, a black rectangle with the outline of Texas and white words: NO PARKING and TOWING ENFORCED.

Signs & labels--voices of absent authorities--always interest me. I've lived in Texas most of my life & never met a No Parking sign like this one; most are made of (more) red words on a white rectangle.
