But overall I'd still think vigilance saved lives more than concluding from the present that it's unlikely or impossible to escalate all too far beyond the discrimination and more erratic violence that was obvious already for example in 1933.

And of course unfortunately not all who were vigilant got out and survived. Not all had the abilities and privileges required, and other factors may play in too.

And never again should include vigilance and knowing that in a few years more could happen than we can prove from now.

Not saying things would repeat exactly like that. But it did happen once in its unique way. So things like that can happen again unless we're vigilant early enough.

Never again doesn't only mean an exact repetition but should mean anything even just remotely like that.
