It was part of my credential program at SFSU with Dr Kysh

My kids were under 3 in 2020 and I think we escaped any serious trouble. The oldest remembers masking and testing a bit in 2021-2022 but otherwise nothing.

51 or 57 was my first thought.

You’ve ruled out the primes themselves and then the evens, 5n, 11n are easy to spot. 7* an odd? You’d be at 63 quick.

But 3n can stay small and get unfamiliar multiplicands (17,19).

Missed education with continued normalized higher absenteeism perhaps. I also think some shaken norms in general could be a factor.

How does the kid or even an adult novice know their question-asking is lacking though? Seems they need to be motivated and also realize the chatbot responses are not good enough and then iterate?

5. I noted that by the third idk a human would shift gears. Are chatbots capable of doing this? Like, "ok, back up... what is an integral? what are we doing?"

... A human tutor might supply a more basic substitution question to gather evidence on the student's knowledge there.

4. It couldn't resist mentioning the strategy almost right away. "have you used substitution in integrals before?" That's an inside thought, ChatGPT! The tutor should have that question but maybe not ask it-- a human may intuit that the answer they get is not useful....

3. But it couldn't act on my non responsiveness and didn't demand too much more of me.

A couple stray thoughts
1. remarkably similar to Khanmigo's responses. Different than MagicSchool or an non-warmed ChatGPT from your Substack post though
2. I actually think it started off ok, and had a few blue underlined things that are very similar to how a human tutor/teacher might go about this

I tried to warm ChatGPT to the warm demander mode. Then I wanted to see where it was seeking my knowledge or assets (blue) vs. giving me hints (which I told it to limit - orange). I also couldn't resist some sparkles for the non-sequitur encouragement.
