Last week several Proud Changemakers had a great time at the Pride in Leadership Conference in Manchester. The event provides a full day of insight and inspiration for our community and its allies and aims to educate and connect people across the LGTBQIA+ spectrum.

International Lesbian Day is celebrated annually on October 8 to recognise and celebrate lesbian history, culture, and diversity worldwide. The day is an opportunity to promote awareness and understanding of the lesbian community.

Our CEO Luca Straker will be attending the Sheffield Queer, Love, Life and the Law event on Wed 1 Oct at 6pm. They will be talking about their personal experiences and also the work we do at Proud Changemakers.

Bisexual Awareness Week, also known as #BiWeek, is an annual celebration held from September 16–23. It is an extension of Celebrate Bisexuality Day. The celebration promotes cultural acceptance of the bisexual community, as well as attempts to create a platform for advocating bisexual rights.

We want to say a huge thank you to Suneet Sharma, our Deputy CEO (Governance). Suneet has guided us through the governance work that enabled us to become a registered charity.

While we’re sad to see him go, we’re also excited to see what comes next.

On this day in 1990...the British action group OutRage demonstratesd outside Scotland Yard to call for an end to police entrapment and an increase in efforts to solve anti-gay murders.

OutRage! focused on lesbian and gay rights. Founded in 1990 , the organisation ran for 21 years until 2011.

On This Day...

Film Director James Whale is born in Dudley, England. He directed such classics as Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein and lived openly as gay man throughout his career, which was virtually unheard of in the 1920s and 1930s. Whale died by suicide in 1957.

International Non-Binary People’s Day is observed each year on the 14th July and aims to raise awareness of the issues faced by non-binary people around the world. This important day shines a light on those who identify as non-binary and celebrates the community’s diversity and gender identities.

June 11th marks the date when Section 28 was repealed in the UK and Wales in 2003.

Section 28 was a piece of legislation that prohibited the "promotion of homosexuality" by local authorities, particularly in schools.
