Veterans need the staff who are leaving the VA. Collins claims those staff were exempt but on the list @thewarhorsenews.bsky.social obtained there are hundreds of employees who typically interact with patients, including nurses, claims assistants, therapists, pharmacists, & psychologists.

Veterans' unemployment is rising. Blame federal layoffs. Veteran unemployment is rising, especially among women vets, as the federal government bleeds jobs.

Veterans often continue their service by working for the federal government. The ongoing federal layoffs are hitting veterans hard -- by taking away services we need and by taking away our jobs.

The administration claims cuts were necessary to root out inefficiency and redirect funds to better veteran care.

But the reality is: cuts were symbolic, erroneous, or reversed. Real savings were modest, and harms were narrowly averted due to whistle blowing within the VA.

DOGE sent tech entrepreneurs with no healthcare or contracting experience to oversee VA cuts. And they started cutting.

But career officials warned that cuts they were making could harm clinical trials and suicide-prevention efforts, which led to emergency halts.

A chaplain, Father Freeman, died in January 2025. The VA later claimed the cessation of his contract as a cost-saving measure worth $98,700, despite the fact that his passing—not DOGE policy—ended the contract.

DOGE targeted vital infrastructure, relied on misleading metrics, and their “Wall of Receipts” trumpeted fake "savings" to appease the egos of politicians demanding proof of "efficiency"

But the underlying actions either caused harm, or were pure theater.

Thank you @membrich.bsky.social for this. While we are pleased the VA cuts won't be as deep as was threatened, we are still concerned about the impacts of the reduction of 30,000 staff through attrition and expedited retirements, which are seriously harming services veterans need and have earned.

Yesterday was pretty cool. Started off on MSNBC talking cuts to vets benefits and how that affects our democracy. Then joined @unite4vets.bsky.social and @dropkickmurphys.com for a rally with about 10,000 other vets. Ended it giving a call to action for what’s next. Definitely one for the books!
