"Today, the Supreme Court, without offering a single line of reasoning, more or less declared that the Fourth Amendment, which protects everyone from unreasonable searches and seizures, nonetheless allows the Trump Administration to arrest and detain anyone who looks Latino, citizen or not, on account of the language that they speak or the kind of jobs they do. The ruling putatively covers the Los Angeles area, but the effect could be national," he continued. "If that's not a constitutional crisis, then what is?"
The New Yorker asked me “how bad” today’s Supreme Court ruling was. I boiled it down to one paragraph:

Mainstream’s supporters believe the Labour government is struggling to communicate the coherent vision, policy and strategy needed to change the country. They acknowledge the huge electoral threat from the populist right in Reform UK and believe Starmer and his top team “seem lost and unprepared to develop and champion a popular left alternative”.
This (from: www.theguardian.com/politics/202...) seems correct. I'd add that I presently believe that the ultimate cause of this is that the leadership of the party rn are ideologically opposed to popular left-wing things, while also in genuine sympathy with anti-trans and anti-immigrant sentiment.

The claim: Democrats keep using annoying words.
The data: Republicans CLAIMS Democrats use them, which then becomes the narratives.
Then centrists attack DEMS for things GOPer CLAIM they say, not GOP for making stuff up.
LA city government remains one big HOA, more concerned with protecting wealthy elites from apartments than solving homelessness, overcrowding, and rent burden. Glad to (mostly) see socialists in office vote against the city's opposition to SB 79 and support apartments near transit.

Public universities are structurally better at this.
It is pretty noticeable that even as mainstream opinion on Israel and Gaza finally shifts, you don’t hear the Responsible Adults apologizing for punishing all the college kids protesting the atrocities. Quite the opposite in fact!

Since operations began in June, ICE and CBP have arrested 2,792 unauthorized immigrants in the LA area. 11:14 AM · Jul 10, 2025 · 5,752 Views
There are at least 900,000 undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles County alone.
After a full month of largescale immigration operations which sent extraordinary fear through whole communities and caused measurably drops in school and work attendance, DHS says it has arrested under 2,800 of them.
